right, because gold spur makes you do a test ride, correct? Nabors doesnt do that, you get hired and sent out with a driver or different drivers and its up to the driver if he wants you to drive or not, some drivers never let you drive, some just ask if you know how to drive and if you say yeah, they let you drive all day, some will get on your nerves, some wont give a #### what you do which is cool.

personally, i dont see why they test drive a rookie out of driving school. Most schools, you still dont know jack s h i t when you get out and now you get thrown into a truck you have practically zero experience with and its a completely different animal. What do they expect from a rookie test drive? do they want to make sure you know how to turn a steeering wheel? I guess they can spot potential and who is lame but if they expect anything more from a rookie, i would think thats very unfair.....but its probably the case that they want to make sure youre not a lame a s s, so i'm sure you'll do just fine (unless youre lame lol) and just make sure that you show your are dead serious and trying HARD and i'm sure that will be good enough because i guarentee a stone cold rookie out of cdl school is not going to impress anyone with their driving skills......BUT DESIRE AND A DILLIGENT ATTITUDE IS ALL YOU NEED....just show it and you'll be fine.

by the way, i discussed some floating in your new thread.....personally myself, i learned enough about floating and stuff from watching every youtube video i could find because i didnt know s h i t coming out of cdl school. I learned just enough off of youtube to be able to float in a real truck in the matter of 15 minutes, i wasnt great at it but i could get myself down the road and i wasnt grinding the crap out of gears.

lol, when nabors told me they had 13 speeds with a splitter, i got nervous as hell but i was determined. As soon as i got off the phone, i went to youtube and mentally and physically practiced shifting gears in my computer chair lol. It really helped.

I wish i was as wordy as you paul lol! Yeah goldspur did say they would make me take a test drive not really worried about that i can drive just fine(for a rookie lol) Im not even sure i would take a job with them since im just starting to look and id like to be closer to the coast. That being said i went through midland/odessa today and youre right there are signs and billboards everywhere looking for drivers! So if i crap out near corpus or san antonio ill just go back there and get on with someone. Fortunately i was able to save some money and have the luxury of taking a few days to look around.I stopped in some tiny town in the middle of nowhere its called sonora i think lol.Too bad you work nights or id buy you those beers!!

Anyway tomorrow ill go to San Antonio and corpus and let everyone know what i find! Like you said Paul anyone who wants to should find lots of opportunity in Midland/Odessa

Hmmmm, dont know if you want to follow directly in my footsteps but i get what you are saying and i apreciate it and i wish you luck.......but i'm not going to lie, the trail i leave behind is dangerous and i'm prepared for death, there isnt a night that goes by where my butthole doesnt pucker tight enough to make a diamond, i dont slow down, i simply trust that the road is straight ahead of me through the thick fog and on coming traffic has their lights on, my truck is not going to wash out into a ditch or over an over pass and i'm not going to fall asleep at the wheel even though i'm seeing double and "seeing things" as well......yet like i said, i got that govenor pegged out. I saw 3 otr wrecks tonight, not going to lie, driving a rig is dangerous, but i guess thats the rush. I suppose its up to the operator on how safe he wants to be but i always throw that out the window and just "trust" what i know. There are many times when i get angered that i drive with fear, i really hate that, i simply wont live with fear of death going down the road. I really dont know how to explain the feeling of going down a wet foggy 20 mile stretch of road thats relatively straight with gradual turns along the way and your doin the max of 65mph and the road is bumpy and wavy and you hit stretches where theres no reflectors on the road and you hit a thick patch of fog where you simply cant see anything......and i keep that gas pedal pegged......or how about the same thing except going into a tight lane turn with a couple rigs hauling ### your way and all you see is a gigantic glare and "your road" is judging by how those trucks were coming into the turn......i know there is more dangerous things in this world but ###### if what i'm describing aint dangerous.......and i live for every moment of it, its a total rush. Seriously, driving at night aint no joke, most people cant handle it and thats what motivates me more. Every time those rigs come my way in those situations, i grip that wheel tight and feel the devil bite my ###, i hate it but love it at the same time.....thats the rush. Theres a saying in the oil field, "go and get it", when i get dispatched for a load, you GO AND GET IT and many of us out here got that mind set, its a type of fever i guess, danger and money, its definately something that calls to a man, dont know how to explain it.....and its all out here for you.

Paul Ive been reading your posts on here and what you are doing is great and you are making a good hand. Only thing here is be safe and you already know that, but running 65 in dense fog is downright dangerous even if you know the road you are on. I have never driven the oilfields, but have been out here for 8 years[still a rookie really]. What I'm getting at is there are others out there on the road that may not want the devil biting them in the arse[ I have been in those situations as well]. Just remember that driving is a dangerous job and running like that can not only get you killed, but others killed as well. Please don't take what I say the wrong way. I wish you nothing but the best, but look out not only for you, but for other people on the road. Good luck and be careful. You are doing a great thing and glad you love what you do.

Is there anybody in DFW area hiring? I have 12 years exp. driving and operating a concrete pump truck, but no class A exp. I will have my A in a couple of weeks, but not from a driving school. Thanks for any help.

Im interested in some work out here or north dakota Have read this thread all the way through almost. I got a couple of months hazmat tanker experience and 6 months bedbugging experience Really hate the bed bugging like driving tankers. Just mad a bad employer choice with the tanker company i went to work for. But i am for sure used to the 14 and 15 hour days that come with the line of work. and im more then willing to drive to texas to get the work just need someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info dude called GS today they are gunna email me an application and from what the nice lady said on the phone oif they like what they see i may have me a job!!!. if i do get out there we'll have to meet up so i can buy ya some beers for the help ya have been to me!
