Hi, Upfront I'm not a truck driver or broker. I'm just a guy looking for a transporter. In the past I've always used U-Ship. I won't go into details here, but I'm looking for another way to ship.
Please tell me, how do you find your partial shipments to create your full load? I honestly don't know how to let anyone know I have a 9000 pound shipment going from Illinois to Northern California. Please, referrals to a broker or OO's who don't mind working with an individual shipper rather than only million dollar businesses is appreciated. I'm flexible and can wait weeks if necessary for you to put together a full load.
I placed details in the broker section of this forum about a week ago and only had one referral to a web site that has a major glitch I'm still waiting on to be fixed.
Please, explain how I, an individual, find OO partial load transporters, or brokers or other referrals would be sincerely appreciated. Where do you find your partial loads?
    Thank you very much.

Is it on pallets? Does it require temp control? Must it be sent by a flatbed? What are the dimensions, or how many feet of trailer space will you require? What type of business is it going to at delivery? Will it require a crane, or is it going to a private residence, and will they have the necessary unloading equipment, I.e. forklift, a dock, or does the truck need a tailgate, etc. Same for the pickup.

If it's known if it needs a dry van or flat that will help start your search. Then you could Google trucking companies in your area, or once it's determined the trailer type maybe someone working for one of those companies can chime in and offer a suggestion if their company runes between IL and CA.

You will want a reputable company and not some run around bs when you call to ask where the truck is or how the trip is going, as well as properly insured and authority is good, etc.

I can't help you directly (would be interstating).

You can call Roadway or R&L or XPO or any LTL company. Even Landstar or United Van can move it

Just a heads up, if you are trying to find a cheaper solution, having a class 8 truck deliver that is going to be expensive.

partial loads don’t mean partial money. That’s going to take up a lot of space.

Hi, yes the truck has a150 in. wheel base so that's less than 15 ft of a 45 ft flatbed trailer, or am I figuring it wrong? But as I said in the other post, its 9,000 pounds. It's being picked up at a business with any equipment needed available to help load. It's going to a private residence with an acre of property so there is plenty of room to unload. And a fork lift can be available if needed. Or it could be delivered to a near-by business if you would prefer. See my other post in the broker section of this forum for load details.
How would I know if a company is reputable? Is there some feedback or company rating website somewhere?
Finally, what is interstating? Is that because you're in Canada and I'm in the US?

I thought the advantage of combining partial loads was to save the shipper some money and to allow the truck driver to make more money than if he was to drive his entire trailer cross country only half full. So are you, LoneRanger, saying above it makes no difference for cost if its the only item being shipped cross-country or if the trailer has other loads too? Just sounds very inefficient to me, but then again I'm no expert in how shipping works.

Tomorrow I'll be researching the other references in the other posts in this thread. And if anyone has any other suggestions or advice for me, it would be appreciated.
    Thank you, everyone.

Think of it this way, weight or size. 9k weight can be 4 pallets, but 9k weight of a truck might take more room than 4 pallets. In other words if that truck goes on a flat bed, how much room does that trailer have for other loads? What if that truck doesn’t have other loads? So if it’s not pallet size then you are going to be paying to have it moved. That truck looks like it will take up room 6 to 8 pallets if not more when double stacked.

your also going to have to consider if that truck goes on a flat bed is it more than 13’6” tall now, if yes than it’s going to be considered oversized, now you need specialized equipment.

Might be cheaper to fix the brakes drive it down to Norcal and fly back.

It probably needs to go on a stepdeck with ramps. You stated wheelbase but what is bumper to bumper measurement. What's the ground clearance. Does it run and drive properly. If a driver is loading something else that drives on after yours it may need to be unloaded and reloaded later to get something in front of it. My experience is it's almost never a easy load and go , there's gonna be something wrong that kills lots of my time.

Price a local ramp truck, like a rollback tow truck. And then start looking up “cheap freight brokers to ship my stuff”

    or stick with uship

I read both posts, I won't refer you to anyone other than the link below. It is an old truck, it takes up more space than you realize and it is not going to be cheap for the most part. You must either get it on with other freight or pay for one truck to take it.
