Called about relay, was informed load not due til tomorrow so no worries. Except that payroll cutoff is tonight. So, gonna roll the dice and hope they get me done in time to push the load in before midnight. Hoping they don't dismiss my difficulties with the bunk heater because it started this morning. It's on its way out and I don't need it to fail in the middle of nowhere on a 25 degree night like last night (too warm to idle the truck, too cold to sleep).
Reckon I'll get a load of laundry done and stock up at Wal-Mart while I'm there. I had a few hundred miles carry over from last week (forgot to scan that trip in) so not losing my head about this trip if I can't deliver tonight. I hate I couldn't make the Columbus yard last night but I was knackered.
I still consider it a huge plus in this company's favor that they don't argue with me if I say I can't drive. I guess in a blatant case of goldbricking or recurring instances they might come down hard, but I've been plenty of places where if something delayed me and I couldn't do a complete shift as planned they would lose their minds.
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

Haven't been able to read your posts in a while. Hate what you're going through but wherever you go, hope it works out well for you.

Just had a Come To Jesus meeting with management, nothing malicious just facts. Referred them to my journal here. Referred them to my Qualcomm history and dispatch history. Told them I don't want to leave but I really need a compelling reason to stay. The details are unimportant,; suffice it to say that this may change everything as I very well might have that reason.
Stay tuned....Dominick253, OriginalBigfoot, double yellow and 2 others Thank this. -
I cant wait!

Love your posts, but I'm a bit surprised you're throwing in the towel after 2 1/2 weeks with GTI. Not that it is the wrong decision, it just seems a bit premature - especially during a seasonal low:
A new hire near the top of the pay scale probably isn't going to be setting any mileage records when there isn't a lot of freight to go around -- especially if your ops crew hasn't had time to build a favorable impression of you.
My $0.02... Good luckDominick253, Dinomite and Captain Zoom Thank this. -
Hey Double Yellow, thanks for reading.
Just want to clarify, my reasons for wanting to leave were more to do with (what may have turned out to be mistaken) impressions of the corporate culture here. I'd be a liar to try to say being run like a regional driver hasn't influenced my opinion. I've tried, sometimes unsuccessfully, to give the company the benefit of the doubt given the current time of year; that said, I'm as human as the next man and sometimes fail to prevent my emotions from overriding my intellect.
As I said a short while ago, I had a heart to heart with some people in management. Seems they also had some false impressions of me and are likewise willing to admit haste in judgement. We are both suspending prior opinions in light of having gotten off on the wrong foot and are each willing to start fresh. As we have each aired our perspectives we have reached an understanding that we have much more in common than we thought.
I am sticking around for at least a little longer. We'll see if things live up to my current hopes (as I've said before, I really don't want to leave).
I'm happy with how the phone call went. I think it helped a great deal that I approached them with an attitude of "How can I work worth you to resolve this issue" rather than "You better prove to me that you're worthy of me granting you the great honor of continuing to be my employer."
The first one opens a dialogue; most companies really aren't out to stab anyone in the back without provocation. Some may not care much about the driver, but that means they won't go out of their way to hurt you any more than to help you. The second approach generally gets you your walking papers, post haste.
Will this work out? Stay tuned!OriginalBigfoot, oldtrucker66, DenaliDad and 3 others Thank this.
