I knew werner sucked for the whole time ive worked here...but i did at one point atleast think they were decent.. I have a feeling that on monday, my dispatcher is going to come in and find that I no longer work here.
First of all, i've been going to canada daily for the past week. Werner screws me over when i go to canada. Big time. Got a $200 paycheck. That's bull. Spent half that to eat. And it costs more to eat in canada too.
I have the money to rent a car though + deposit.
Clutch went out. Dealership was 20 miles away, was told to drive it 70 miles...with no clutch....to the terminal in allentown. Shop says itll be two days before they get to it.
I guarantee itll take atleast a day after that too.
You know what? I aint sittin here all weekend in a truck with no heat or ac. I have another trucking job lined up, but I dont know. I don't even know if i should continue driving. I feel like going on my own strike and working for a temp agency again. My life is worth more than a couple hundred bucks a week, and i made that kind of money at a temp agency, and i was home all day every day too..but i hated the job. But im starting to hate trucking too.
But the thing that gets me, is this repair woulda happened at a dealership, fast. They think they're saving money by doing it themselves, but they're not, because the truck is out of service for so much longer, and it doesnt make money if its not rolling. Right? What the hell? And im basically looking at a $100 paycheck this week. Seriously.
Anyway, either way, im going to be taking a few days at home when i get there. And i'll be working elsewhere after that. I just..I dont know. I dont know if i want to drive a truck anymore.
I'm done with werner.

I'd say you're a pretty hardcore guy to last that long at Werner. It could get worse, but it could get alot better!
-
Try it with a small company for a change that don't go to Canada.I stay very busy hauling frozen food but as I have stated before I don't run a legal log and never intend to.As long as I drive there will be outlaw trucking.
-
You have 2 years under your belt. Freight is picking up and jobs should be there for someone with clean experience. Just don't burn the bridge. Give them a notice and leave the right way even if they screw you for it. At least then you will be able to tell the next company you didn't screw your last one and you won't screw them when its time to move on either.

Looks like im not gettin home til i get this truck fixed. I do not ride busses and I can not rent a car. Budget is sold out of cars in Allentown for tomorrow, and Enterprise won't rent without a credit card. What the hell? Budget atleast takes a debit card with money on it.
So i guess ill have to inform my fleet manager on monday that im leaving on my regularly scheduled hometime for a better opportunity..and do whatever they do to me about it. Cant stand to do this past this hometime though.
Im also going to be making some calls in the morning and see if theres anyway i can borrow a truck. I dont see any reason i couldnt do some shags with one of the daycabs sitting here. $40 a pop, id be happy with 2 of em a day...hehe....
$100 for nyc too....and $75 minimum load pay..
But no matter what, being given a $200 check for 7 days of hard work, by a mega corporation like this...it felt like being spit in the face. And it seems like thats what this industry is about lately, screw it.
Oh yeah, and im putting in applications at places like my local conway terminal when i go home. Thank god for having a motorcycle....50mpg and way more fun than the volvo...heh... -
Bad thing is that there still arent a whole lot of jobs in michigan. Our sunday paper has about 5 to 6 job listings....including the scams. what the hell man?
There's a produce company in my area that hires seasonal drivers starting in june...I just might call them and see whats up. Almost went there last year but got depressed! I have a feeling its long hours and atleast decent money...they dont advertise, found em in the yellow pages. -
I had that problem too with my debit card and renting cars but if you use an airport location they are generally more flexible with debit cards. I rent 90% of my cars through Enterprise with my debit card and as long as I am at an airport it is fine. Good luck.Last edited by a moderator: May 15, 2010

Hey Phroziac! Be freakin' careful about how you go about this - Werner will burn you via the DAC if they can. Give them notice, follow the instructions, and make for darn sure you take the hardware back to where they want you to turn it in!
Good luck man!ambivalence and JustSonny Thank this. -
Phroziac- Hubby and I both agree-do this the right way- no abadonments! I know it bites when you are on your last bit of sanity but if you screw the company it could haunt you for a long time down the road for any other local or OTR jobs. FYI:The jobs in our local paper are about what yours are too but I think that alot more people are advertising via internet now instead of newspaper (not that many people get it any more)

it's not really an abandonment since his truck is sitting at their terminal to get fixed.
But he should follow through with notice.
Dont give them a reason to slap your DAC.
