I had a VIO once and didn't like it but it was a cheapie.

That was the other problem I had with sprint. they didn't had the connection manager downloads for vista.

I had real problems with vista at first but it
s growing on me I guess. I almost loaded xp but I hate to go backwards. They are getting more stuf available for vista now so its getting better. I had it the first week it was released and there was NOTHING

I have an HP Pavilion. Only issue i've had with it, is the cooling system needs revamped. HP said they'd fix it but I had to send it to them. I couldn't do without it when I was on the road.

I like it pretty well so far. I broke down and got one of the higher-end models so it's fairly loaded and has a built-in webcam. It's much quieter than the Dell I had when the cooler kicks on. I keep it mounted on my laptop stand while I'm driving so it will be put to the test in that department. I got the insurance that covers any damage from drops and bumps that lasts for a year.

The problems with Vista will work out eventually. But Sprint and the air card manufacturers really dropped the ball on not being ready for this.

I think I am going to grab a Dell XPS M2010 for the road...I love the detachable bluetooth keyboard and the 20" screen...The remote is bluetooth as well and acts as a mouse...Probably could get by with less but since this will be my only source of entertainment, I need something that will do everything...

Had a Dell and absolutely hated it and their customer service sucked!
Bought a Toshiba Satellite and love it. Purchased the accident insurance and that has paid for itself already. Guess I'm pretty hard on it while on the truck.

According to the "TechGuy" (XM Extreme 152 weekend afternoons) DON'T UPGRADE to Vista from XP, he reports MANY complaints and also notes that the US Government has cancelled ALL ORDERS of new PCs with Vista because most software and peripherals (printers, scanners) will not work with VISTA unless they were designed to work with VISTA.

I am on my third DELL. They (IMHO) have unsurpassed Tech support. The ONLY time I had to send my DELL in for repairs, I shipped it on Friday afternoon, it came back on Monday. FIXED!
Since my warrenty has expired, I found I can purchase (new/used) DELL parts on EBay. I just upgraded my CPU (from 1.6Ghz) to 2.4Ghz, installed 1G ram, upgraded my video card (from 64Mb) to 128Mb, and put in a 120G HD. I am installing an internal wireless card next time I am home, and I may replace my LAN card as well (which isnt currently working). All for less than $450. Every upgrade was done with parts that DELL uses. (Plus, I put in a new screen last year)

I have the answer, and the way to correct the 'problem'. I have a DELL too, and the "DEFAULT" setting is "PORTABLE/LAPTOP" This causes your CPU to run at slower speeds. The way to correct this is: RIGHT CLICK on the Desktop and select PROPERTIES. Then click on the SCREEN SAVER tab. CLICK on POWER (to adjust monitor power settings). In the Power Schemes tab, you will see options for when the laptop is plugged in and when it is running on batteries. On the "Plugged in" side, make sure NEVER is selected in all three options. CLICK SAVE AS... then APPLY then OK. Your CPU will now run at FULL SPEED with all your RAM while plugged in.

OOPS, This "FIX" only seems to work until you RE-BOOT, but there is a way to make this more-or-less perminant until you change the BIOS again.

RE-BOOT and as windows is starting, keep tapping on the "F2" key to enter the BIOS SET-UP Config Utility.
Go to "Page 6 of 7" by pressing the "Alt-P" keys. On the left side of the screen you will see the "Power Management".
There is two columns, the one on the left is for when you are "on Battery" while the column on the right is for "AC" power. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to change fields and the LEFT/RIGHT arrows to change VALUES. Change the "VALUE" of Power Management on AC to "Disabled". That will DISABLE the "Smart CPU" in XP while you are on AC and your CPU will run at full speed. You can also disable the Smart CPU for battery use, but it eats battery life.
