Yes,
The rotors for discs are expensive, BUT in OTR use most will go 800,000 to 1,000,000 miles so look at the total cost of ownership. Do a little Googling and see the Bendix videos of doing a brake pad change in under 15 minutes per wheel end. Try that with drums! And the performance and feel of the discs is far superior to anything you have tried previously.
Stopping "X" number of feet shorter is only a sales gimmick unless the 10 feet you saved was 12 feet of the car in front of you!
Im going to order new Pete 587 midroof and I need any suggestions or opinions. Thanks

On board scale. You will find yourself in the boonies and here is a portable h.p setup

As more and more disc brake systems are sold, the price of the parts will come down.
-
Buy the 579 instead.

I like drum brakes, cheaper to replace a bad one.
-
1 discbrakes better for stopping the truck, and when more trucks have disc is cheaper the same like everytink ,look in europe every truck have discbrakes ,is like everythink when is new cost more after the price go down
-
Add EBS to those diskbrakes.
So PeteSalesGuy,when will Peterbilt offer EBS instead off ABS? -
Just got our new trailer in with air disc brakes on it, and on my Pete, this setup is like driving a big pickup truck around, stops on a dime! Has GREAT pedal feel ( I actually think it will be BETTER driving on slick road with this pedal feel)
I know old habits die hard, and only time will tell on expense/ life replacement costs, but unless there is some underlying problem that I am not seeing ALL of our new trucks/trailers will be nothing but air disks.
Now I am just waiting for my first level 1 so the officer can tell me what my air gap is on my brakes, lol -
As to the comment "I like drum brakes, cheaper to replace a bad one." Yes, it IS cheaper now but the total cost of ownership over 1M miles will likely weigh to the favor of the discs due to longer life and reduced labor costs to replace pads. Using the "cheaper" logic, it is cheaper to buy a 300 HP engine as opposed to a 550. It's cheaper to run steel wheels with Chinese tires as compared to aluminum and quality tires, etc, etc.KANSAS TRANSIT and HwyPrsnr Thank this. -
MackDaddyMark and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this.
