I have submitted applications to most of the second chance companies ( USA Truck,
Western Express, Carolina Cargo, Trans Am, etc.) as of tonight. They were not part of my original plan, especially after reading several reviews that sounded like horror stories, but being a new driver with a semi-colorful past, I will keep my fingers crossed and do a little more research on which is the lesser of evils.
Thank you fellow truckers for your suggestions and I will definitely be downloading the question sheet for new employers that is at the top of the forums.

I had a driver who applied and had a careless ticket so no go with the insurance but I suggested because It was actually stupid on how he got it, contact a lawyer and get the case reopened to have it reduced. He did get it reduced with probation and got good local job. Cost him like $600.

I had the exact same problem driver. I had 17 years of experience at the time but because a fender bender in my personal vehicle that put a careless driving citation on my record. I was fired from my company of 12 years when they did that annual mvr check. Every company I applied told me to come see them in 3 years when it wouldn't count.
Here's what you do. Hire a lawyer in the county you received the citation, preferably one that specializes in traffic citations. Tell him you want the charge dismissed or reduced. It won't be overnight (took mine 3 months), but you won't be on that forklift in that -20 warehouse for any longer than you have to be. Good luck.

Just get in with any reasonable trucking company and put a year in and then you’ll be fine. Believe it or not there are trucking companies that will hire you. You just have to connect with them. Whatever you do don’t lie about the citation, they will all find it. You’ll end up getting hired a bunch of companies and then a week or two later, told to leave.
