As a matter of fact, my CB is very much a tool these days. I have a pretty extensive collection of radios, but with the way things are now days...what's the use? Having a decent or remotely educated conversation with someone while your on the road is a rarity. It's kinda hard to carry on such a conversation even if two drivers want to when you have the idiot with 2000 watts sitting at his base station telling everyone he "just got down", he's "checking the mail and going back quiet". Why carry on like a child on channel 19? Seriously? BTW - roger beeps are just plain irritating (I can't recall a time that I needed to confirm that I spoke) Echo - well, it's just stupid...you don't want to hear an echo standing face to face with someone...what makes ppl think I want to hear them echo over the radio? (turn it up just a hair more driver...we can still understand a little of what your saying) Noise toys - not much to say about that other then CB shops should just start smacking the hell out of those that come in asking for em. As for cosmetics...nothing wrong with that at all. If you take any pride at all in your work, you would want your working space (cab) to be neat and clean. Throw a junky looking radio with wire hanging all over the place on the dash and the rest of the cab is going to look trashy. That my opinion anyway. I HAVE to be neat, clean, and organized or I will go completely NUTS! Having a decent looking radio only adds to it...

Yeah, and often times I've learned trucks don't care to talk to anyone who isn't a trucker. Which is a shame. I enjoy a good convo.

Do you understand why people talk like that? It's because they are radio hobbyists, and that's their lingo. Just like truck drivers have their own lingo. Your brother truckers in the 70's used to say "breaker breaker this heah be th' rubba duck we gawts us ah convoy that's a beeg tan-fur thar yessiree Bob mercy sakes alive tham thar chik'n coops be lawk'd whare's tham thar bears at, lookin at th' world thru mah winders..." Heck some of the truck drivers to this day talk like that. So call it childish if you want, just remember some truckers talk like that too.

NOW...why any of those radio hobbyists would use 19, is way beyond me. I've done my share of skip shooting but never used 19 to do it. Too congested.

I talked with a radio repair man at the Petro last weekend, according to him, a roger beep on your radio was a sign you had a big radio. I believe he said the same went for echo. I don't know about noise toys other than to be cute and annoying.

I can understand a nice looking interior. But what's wrong with the look of a Cobra 29 or a General Lee radio? Other than it's a carry over from the 1970's. They look nice and not junky. I suppose if you bought a radio 20 other truckers owned and beat the hell out of....maybe you'd need all the cosmetics. And yes a good installer hides all the wires and such.
