I'm in SoCal, should I take the "easy" route of one of the megas with "free" CDL in Fontana? Or?

It doesn’t matter where you work, if you’re a California resident, you will pay California state tax on your income. I worked on ships overseas for years and would only be in California for maybe 3-4 weeks a year and always had to pay California. My tax guy told me as long as you have a California drivers license, are registered to vote in California, and receive mail at a California address you are a resident and subject to state tax.

Changing your license to another state is no big deal, If you work for IWX they will let you use the terminal address for your residence address, If you get Arizona license its good till your 64 or 65 something like that, just have to renew your Hazmat every few years..

Hence the "maybe instead get a Texas CDL, forward mail to somewhere in Texas, and flip Cali the bird" idea

I used a friends address in Florida, he signed a form stating I lived there, I took that form to the DMV & walked out with a Florida license. Texas might have different requirements, check online. I’m sure there are great schools in Texas, good luck bro, best move you’ll ever make leaving California.

does not matter as far as school, school is for one thing and one thing only, get you ready to pass your test. Believe me Texas is no great place over all. This Ca bashing crap is exactly that crap, no other state is as good to lie in as California, we do have some thing to deal with but its worth it.

There are certainly some thing I like about Texas, I like the Houston area, but would not want to live there. Anyway decide what you want.

I was in Texas 3 or 4 months ago, Dallas is kinda sketch but Houston and San Antonio are awesome.

Intend to move there anyway to settle down eventually, cuz cleaner nicer and homes are 5 -10x cheaper... but figured I might see about becoming a Texan for tax purposes, because the idea of giving hard earned money to CA is sickening
