He is talking about the OnGuard. It tends to not like cold weather. It'll give you the orange screen of abandon, where it won't work until the thing thaws out. Then you lose cruise control, etc.. These Cascadias have internal antennas, and they don't seem to receive it send out very well. I would recommend you to invest in a good mirror-mounted antenna. If you ask the shop when putting the truck in for a PM, they might even route the cable for you.
if not there should be a blank rubber wiring grommit on the right side of the firewall. PITA to get to inside the cab but you can route a antennae cable through there and out beside the hood latch , although I am not too sure on the new 2018 cascadias. Any rate, scope it out well and you can avoid pinching your cable.
Yea I noticed that. Our first load was to Wisconsin and it went in and out quite a few times. I'll definitely ask the shop about installing some if not the whole cb deal. I'm electrically retarded, and the boyfriend said he's worried he may touch the wrong wires and mess something up. About the mirror mounted antennas, I just came across cbworld.com and I'm only seeing 5ft and 5.5fr tall fiberglass ones from the two brands everyone seems to go with. Would one of the 5.5ft ones be enough?
5 feet is plenty. But once installed the swr's must be set to match antenna to the radio. The closer to 1.1 the better.
One thing I did was reserve an hour of drive time to use in case my first choice of shut down spot was full. SNI got 10 hrs , I kept one for myself. gary oc store sells,or did, this book called park my rig. lists places you can park that arent a truck stop. worth it to get it.
Congrats. Are you regional OTR? I'm no fan of any big mega trucking company but Schneider is not a bad choice for a starter.
I came across a Firestik tunable tip antenna, would something like that be best? Thanks! I'm regional. I was originally set to be OTR, but I asked to switch and my dbl said no problem. And yes, I did lots of research before settling on a company and kept seeing that they're one of the better places for new drivers training wise. I plan to stop before the 10th hour honestly for that reason. I'll be on the lookout for that book. My otr trainer gave me his truck stop and rest area guide that lists them by state and breaks it down by interstate and exit.
