No kiddiing, those cameras activate if you go over a deep pothole. I don't like being spied on.

Let's not be so quick to judge having a camera in the truck. This will help prove innocence out on the road when accidents happen. We are all aware of the state of trucking these days and the fact that with all the restrictions in place truck drivers are denied some of the most basic of rights and that incudes innocent until proven guilty. More times than not out there it's guilty until proven innocent but most the time it's just guilty. The cameras are there to record 10 seconds before and after an incident bringing proof and justice to the side of the truckers and the companies. Remember- the drivers are the professionals out there not the 4 wheelers that completely lack the respect to share the road safely.

I can understand the road facing cameras but the driver facing ones are uncalled for.

One of the best things about driving otr is not having someone looking over your shoulder constantly. You can pretty it up all you want, we all know the reason a company would put driver facing cameras in trucks is to spy on the driver, not protect him/her.

The day they put one in my truck is my last day trucking. Sadly, it's probably coming..

Sorry OP, not trying to hijack your thread. Good luck in whatever company you choose.

I want some of what your smoking or drinking,
you are either very misinformed or ignorant the cameras are to protect the company. they have nothing to do with protecting the driver

I wish I could thank your post more than once. I am still amazed a how willing people are to just give away rights and privacy...what a weak society we have become.

I don't disagree that the cameras facing inward are unneccessary. That is definately a breach of privacy and rights. But, the front facing cameras have saved many drivers jobs, countless CSA points and millions of dollars to the companies in court fees and judgements just by simply proving what really happened. Without that camera I can guarantee you when it comes to a "he said, she said" the law always takes the side of the 4 wheeler, not the truck the driver. As far as you thinking it's all about the company protecting the company, you should put your guard down a bit. Companies go out of business without drivers and I know that many companies make driver retention a top initiative. They are not all "big bad evil corporations." They work very hard to run a smart business and provide employment for thousands of people including drivers.

there again you are misinformed you are definatly not a driver, I was referring to cameras facing the employee not the road ahead, nothing is gained from that except fo maybe another unreality show.
companys could care less, the bigger companys could give 2 sh&^'s about a driver. they will just fill your seat with a new trainee when you quit or get fired. The bigger companys are subsidized for putting people to work not from longevity but new employees. "if you cant do it your replacement will"

Sure, some companies don't care about driver turnover, but they should and many big companies do care. You just have not driven for the right ones from the sound of it. It's not very easy to actually form a business, hire and invest in employees, invest in equipment, and then actually entrust this equipment to a driver who you can trust to show up everyday with a good attitude, work hard and communicate. Not to mention, once you finally have all these pieces put together, you have to actually go through bid cycles and fight to win awards of consistent, decent paying, driver/business friendly freight that keeps the driver's hours utilized allowing them to run 3,000 miles a week to make a profit as well as allowing the company to have something left over at the end once their operating costs are paid. Very little profit margin involved. You just hope you can find and hang onto the best drivers you can count on to do the job and grow your business. And to your point about hiring brand new trainees over seasoned veteran drivers, the answer to me is easy- go with the experience as opposed to the rookies because after all, if an accident out there is severe enough it can put companies out of business, and thus back to the point of the camera's. They protect the driver, the companies and all the employees that depend on that company being in business so they can make a living for their families.
