Get laid off.. got on unemployment through most or all of the winter.... then if you just HAVE to.. have them pay for the school and get into this mess.. DO NOT buy a truck until you have at least 5 years in the industry.. DO NOT!!!

It's amazing how people can make 130K and not have any common sense...
stevez57305, lots of character and tucker Thank this. -
Am I correct that you make 130k and only work 6 months out of the year. 28 days on/28 days off?
So you want to lose half your paycheck and work twice as much? Basically earning 4 times less for your time while giving up 6 months of home time.
Wow, thats crazy. -
I've never worked on a rig, but I've been around them since forever in various capacities, and I would waaay rather drive a truck. Oilfield sucks, straight up. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Y'all are missing the point.
He's gonna do whatever the #### he wants regardless of what any of you say.
He wants to buy a truck? #### it, give him good suggestions.
Either he will go belly up, living on food stamps and unemployment
OR
He will fight it out and survive.Joe De Artay and goin2fast10 Thank this. -

If he already has his mind made up, why did he ask the question?
lots of character Thanks this. -
From my understanding you basically want to have your own little fleet and be a small carrier.
Yes you can do it but right now if you're planning on running dry can or reefer or flatbed it will be a struggle. Especially not having any connections. Personal advice in your shoes I would get a CDL if you don't already have one, and find a good smaller company. Dive for them saving more money for next few months. I wouldn't do a lease purchase deal. If the market picks up you might have a higher chance of reaching your goal. It's fully doable just takes patience and research with a lot of work effort on business and getting your hands dirty at the same time when you begin.Joe De Artay and goin2fast10 Thank this.
