first off, my name is doug. i am new to this board and new to the trucking industry. i know nothing other than what i have researched, so i am not gonna pretend that i know anything of the lifestyle.before choosing to get into trucking, i decided to research my options of company sponsored training as opposed to private institution training. while searching out this training, i ran across two companies that stood out. ffe and central refridgerated. ffe was "free" and central had a cost of 250 to get started. research it for yourself and see... not gonna rehash what has been said before.my career before this was a touring musician. i toured with hardcore, metal, punk, country and hip hop bands for around 15 years. i went back to college and just didn't feel at home. i realized what had happened... my gypsy mentality had me craving to be back on the road. i toured a little bit more and realized that i need to be working things out for myself instead of five people. so i started my research back in march. i first started with companies that i kept seeing pop up all over the internet. c.r. england and CRST. england: HA!!! i talked toa recruiter and after talking once about stuff, i got an email saying "congrats. see ya monday." along with a bus tickey confirmation. needless to say that alone was a red flag. i talked to a recruiter from crst, kari, and she has been up front and 100% honest with me from day one. in all honesty, i would have probably went with CRST just because of her. she told me the good and the bad about the company. after research, i do not wanna do team driving.i started research on independent schools, and found one that was close by in ky. i have heard good and bad about the school, but i will be attending international truck driving school in bowling green, ky. just like companies, you have to feel like the school is a good fit. steve at itds has been super helpful about everything that i have asked. i even stopped at the school and the range to meet instructors and just see first hand how they do things. "keep doing it till you get it right."after years on the road and then coming back and living in a house, i just dont feel comfortable like i do when i am out driving somewhere. i am happy driving long distances. i dont have a wife, kids or emotional commitments. i dont have a mortgage, car payment or any bill other than cel phone and student loans from college. i know that i am making the right decision with this career choice.i am not a spammer and i am not a recruiter. if you feel the need to email me to check and see, dghurt@gmail.comi will keep you guys posted. thanks.
im new. i start cdl training monday.

Well Welcome to the Forum, Do well in school pay your dues and keep on Truckin! learn by watching others as well as yourself, Don't leave your initial company for at least a year, You will be seen as a jumper and the other better companies will not want you, be completely honest with the drug and criminal questions, take the pee test as requested keep yourself clean and you will do fine. Remember if it looks to good to be true it probably is, REFUSE to sign a lease with anyone, they just use and abuse you, I keep trying to finish this post but I keep thinking of good things to tell you!!! Read up, study this forum like it was a religion!

thanks. i have actually been reading this forum now for about a month. i spent 5 hours on here last night just seeing what all is the biggest complaint in the industry right now. to me, it seems as if people come into trucking with a false sense of work ethic and selfishness. i am not expecting anything spectacular my first year. all i know is that when the company needs me to drive, i drive. i know i am not owed anything, i have to earn it. just looking forward to a new chapter in my life. thanks for the advice.
Nydiation Thanks this. -

Good luck and remember the only dumb question is the question not asked.

I think the 250 is the loose guesstimate they give you for the DMV and living expenses. You'll eat a lot better if you shoot for 400... Seems like a lot but you're talking about a few weeks with no income.
