At Swift we are limited to $100 per week for personal advances.
I guess that keeps it from getting out of hand.

In all my years, four to be exact, I have never once taken a cash advance. I don’t trust that whole system. I don’t trust the cashiers I don’t trust any of it. If I need cash I go to an ATM machine and take it out of my bank. I am extremely funny about my paycheck too. If it’s off, within seconds of them sending it to me I’m on the phone with payroll. Lol I had to do that twice and ever since every single one of my paychecks have been on the market to the penny. You should always know how much your paycheck is gonna be an actually calculate things out to make sure it adds up correct. If it doesn’t, professionally confront them immediately. Do this a few times in your paychecks won’t have errors anymore.

Most people take an advance when they don't have the money in the bank.
    That should be obvious.

And you don't trust any of it?
I request an advance, it is loaded onto my Comdata card, I go to an ATM and withdraw it.
Simple. What is not to trust? And where does a cashier come into it?

You beat me to the punch. We are only allowed 100 bucks at Climate too. Most companies I've worked for had a limit of up to 200 bucks. I don't know about the cash advance theory here.....maybe there were lumper fees on loads and he didn't turn in the receipts. That will cause them to withhold also.

For one thing, the ATM charges you. So they put it on your little card and then you go withdraw it and you get charged a fee. Anywhere from usually three dollars to six Dollars per transaction
If you’ve been truck driving for a while, and living on the truck as an OTR driver 95% of your life and you’re still having to do cash advances while out on the road? You’re doing something wrong with your personal management of your finances.

my point is there’s too many hands in the pie before the money gets to you. Too many opportunities for someone to sleep in a little here and there off to the side. I.e. mainly payroll. Why do you think truck drivers paychecks are off so often? Do you think it’s an accident? Do you think it’s just an honest mistake? If that were the case 50% of the time it would be in your favor, correct? It never is. Never once. It’s because it’s all part of the system and all part of the game.

Most midsize and beyond trucking company’s profile their drivers. They know how you tick. They know what works for you, they know what gets under your skin and they definitely know what they can get away with it with you. If they have 200 drivers and they know 150 of them? They can steal a couple hundred bucks here and there from? Amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars over a year? They’ll do it. They all do it.

    Exactly.
Company advances will not be reimbursed before the paperwork is submitted.
If it does not get in before the payroll deadline, it won't be on that weeks paycheck.

Well, actually, my company charges a fee for a personal advance as well.
    5 bucks.
So it is not only the ATM fee one must consider.
If I take a $100 advance I am actually paying closer to $10 extra in the end.
I have to ask for $105 so I can cover the ATM fee, plus the $5 the company gets.

People also take paycheck loans from companies that charge a lot more.
None of it is really a cost effective thing to do, but if you need a little extra today it may be the only option if you want to eat for the next few days.

You can rant about it, but borrowing money always costs more than you get.

Sounds like it is utterly unlikely he took advices or is responsible for fuel, rental car or hotel. So that leaves what is most likely a honest error from the accounting department.
This is a excellent chance to see the companys reaction to an error on their part that doesn't inconvenience them but only inconvenience you. This will at least let you know who you're dealing with.
Since this is a larger amount it should be corrected on the first business day (Tuesday unfortunately) and shouldn't be delayed to the next pay period.

Strike one - Likely honest, but stupid error.
    Strike two - No communication.
    Strike three - ???

Let's hope this isn't a quick end to his time there.

I would personally not move the truck until somebody answers but that's just me. His fuel card could have been swiped and some thief is taking out the advances. It's happened before at my carrier with another driver just this past week.
