Try Schneider if your Dad's company can verify your 6 month's you spent driving with your brother. It's worth a try and if it don't work your only choice may be start from scratch but the longer you wait the longer it takes to get in the driver seat.

Thanks guys, I've got my log books and everything from that time so verifying it wont be a problem, I have 1 point on my license that comes off in december. I called swift, JB, Schneider, TMC, USA, prime and what seemed like 50 other companies, they all turned me down because of not going to school and all told me my training counts for nothing. I got turned down by swift and JB, there's a blow to the ol' ego. Honestly I would think that hands on, getting out there and doing the job would be more sought after than any classroom. Guess not. I did find out that IF I can find a small company to get on withthen that will probably be my only way. Just got to find one.

Oh, and to top it off, most said they wouldn't send me to school because I already had my CDLs. So I. Get no schooling and no refresher course unless I pay for it.

Nc, one option might be to drop the CDL then apply for a feeder. This will mean they want you to go to a school for your license, and with that put in 1 year with them to pay for the experience. It's a ####e situation, but sometimes you have to find new ways to navigate the system.

You might try maverick. They do not require a school, or recent as long as you have a CDL and can make the hiring criteria.

Wolf, I have thought about that. Its still an option, just one I really didn't want to put into action. Kind of a plan Z, very last resort.

Tarps, thanks alot, ill give them a call in the morning.

The two years experience these insurance companies want. It may be cost prohibitive, but it all depends on the $$$$, I'd think for a certain fee, they would insure anyone. Am I wrong as usual?

I just read your post and you are going through the same thing I am going through. I already have a CDL but I can not prove the driving I did do because the company I worked for was a FEMA contractor for the Katrina clean up and when the work ended so did the company and my proof of experience went to.

You said TMC turned you down? I emailed them stating what I just posted above and they said to fill out an application and I did so about two hours after that I got an email from them asking to call them, I did. I talked to Gus and he said that my application looked good and that I qualified as long as I was willing to go to all 48 and Canada. You have more driving exerience then I do im sure of it if you teamed. So call them back see what they say.

Also you said SNI turned you down too? I talked to them also and they said that I had to have three months experience to qualify for them or to go to a school. Since you have your logs and they company you drove for is still around you should be able to meet these qualifications.

The rules may be different for SNI where you are at but for me down here in south Louisiana thats what I needed if you'd like I can show you the emails from SNI with the qualifications needed.

I believe you are correct on this. I have been out for many years and most companies won't consider me. I can purchase another truck and get insurance though.

This is most likely because I have had my CDL since there was such a thing. I have had a commercial license for more than thirty years.

It is a matter of cost though as I am looking at $8,400 compared to someone my age, with recent experience, the same driving record and comparable equpment values who would pay less than $6,000. At least I can get something besides Progressive with no operating radius limitation.

So yes I believe the insurance thing comes down to dollars and cents. I believe depending on location, experience and driving record the additional cost can be from 30% - 100% though and no company will take on the additional costs.
