I earned my class A cdl license in 1993, and have kept it up to date and current, except for hazmat endorsement which i could always get. I have no criminal record, no accidents, but my bad part is I have a VERY bad employment history. Do I stand a chance to get on with a training company, or a refresher course.? I would need to do this since the last time I drove a truck was the day I took and got my CDL in 1993, true story.
Here is my complete HONEST work history. I never had a trucking job, cause the same month I got my CDL I got hired at a job and I decided to do that instead. SO:
nov. 1993 to April 2011 - employed by a big box retailer, the biggest one lol After 18 years they fired me, for telling a bad off color joke, their policy strictly forbids obscene language, yes it was my fault. Not eligible for rehire.
April 2011 to July 2011 - employed by big box hardware retailer. I left because I got a job at a manufacturing plant.
July 2011 to Feb. 2013 - employed by manufacturing plant. I got tired of it and quit, I was going to go back to school, but I spent the next 2 years doing nothing, not even looking for work, and being unemployed. My mom had passed away and left me a little bit of money and I used that to live on.
Feb. 2015 - the big box hardware retailer I worked for in 2011 hired me back. I only worked there one day though because I just didn't want to live the retail grind again. Yes I made a mistake quitting.
From Feb. 2015 I have been unemployed and not looking for work. Now the time has come when I must get a job, somewhere to have money to live before too long.
Yes I have made some bad mistakes in my work life history. I regret them and hate myself for being so stupid. But I have a class A CDL, no criminal record, and a perfect driving record. With this crazy work history I have do you think I have a chance of getting hired by any training companies? Or is there no hope for me?
Thanks.
I'm perfect, except for a very bad work history

You will probably have to start "at the beginning," like a 21 y/o newbie who never held a CDL. Literally, ground-up. All over again. Your work history has nothing to contribute, nor nothing to detract. It will be a TOTALLY new start. There are many trucking companies that have their own schools, depending where you are located. That info could help @Chinatown get you into an accredited company/school !
gentleroger, Dean25x7, Chinatown and 2 others Thank this. -
As long as you are breathing some company will hire you.

Oh for crying out loud. Every other thread on the forum is can I get a job. Get up and start knocking on doors. Somebody will hire you. Farmers, farm coop, construction company, ect... It might not be the best job but it's out there. This is America you are willing to work you can do it. When did we as Americans become so inept.
Puppage, lagbrosdetmi, Thull and 3 others Thank this. -
somewhere between the Boomer and Yuppie generation.mountaingote and scottlav46 Thank this. -
I know Prime and some others will not hire you unless you have been steadily employed for the last three years. It is not as easy as it was especially if you live in a bad zip code for freight.

Someone will hire you.
After they do please come back and let us know when you quit or when you've been with them for at least 3 months, whichever comes first.Dean25x7, chris887, lagbrosdetmi and 5 others Thank this. -
Dean25x7 and mountaingote Thank this.

The two years off hurts, but mom dying and giving money adds up nicely. You can talk away around most of it. You will prolly have to take a refresher course for the cdl.
