The decision was finalized today to pursue a trucking career leaving behind years of electrical work. I have been on an antidepressant, klonopin and Adderall for about 20 years. After reading the entire thread I'm still confused as most people would be. My conclusion (only from input from this thread alone) is that I should be able to LEGALLY drive. That does not mean a company will hire me. Other than picturing myself driving a truck I have no idea what to expect nor how this industry works. I worked for the SOO LINE railroad years ago as a conductor and eventually operator (engineer) and these medications we're not an issue. That was late 90's through 2005. Rules for operating may have change. I don't know who I would LIKE to work for nor what capacity. One thing is certain, I will not hide nor omit taking my legally prescribed medication. It's not my position to judge if I should morally be allowed to operate. More research is needed and as I hate wasting time will do so. I live in Kenosha Wisconsin which is close to I-94 and many truck stops. Taking a day or two talking with the men and women in the trench seems like a good idea to get personal and first hand opinions on questions because of my ignorance. Of course nothing I'm told will be law but it will help form a better picture of what to expect and maybe even change this career interest. Thank ALL of you for input on this very serious topic and also the legal facts presented. Last, you all made me LMAO as humor in never a bad thing!!! My best to you all.
