I've had the Garmin units for along time. I have noticed in the past 10yrs the algorithm has been changed. For routing of a truck from point A to point B.
The algorithm with route you through the closest scale house/weigh station before you make it to point B. Even if your route is a due east of your point A.
I've had it route me south through a scale then east to another highway to be routed north though another scale. Then you will make it to your point B.
Example is. South on i-5 through Santa Nella scale. East on 152 to highway 99, then Chowchilla scale. Up to Modesto.
When you can run due east on 132.
They both RM and Garmin need class action brought against them. Excessive route use and wasting fuel and time.
Not to mention lifetime map updates that are not lifetime. When they don't support the unit anymore.
I'm thinking of hiring an attorney to start a class action lawsuit regarding the Rand Mcnally tnd 80

For some reason my rand mcnally always wanted to route me through town, like the downtown town square, could never stop it from doing that. It had other quirks but it was okay. Could see where some.of these idiots with no common sense and no map.reading or travel experience would be completely screwed.
MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
I have the TND530. I've had lots of them. They die after 6, 8 months. Usually a charging issue...it won't work when plugged in. Will charge but won't turn on unless you unplug it. Or variations on that theme. I don't bother with customer service any more. First sign of trouble, I buy a new one. I put the old one in the box. I return it. If someone checks the bar code I just pack it up and try elsewhere....never had to try more than three locations. I will do this again and again until they stop selling it. Then I will buy a Garmin and see how bad they are.

Garmin gets its routing through a third party. It's mostly accurate now. I have called in at least 15 problems over the last few years. All fixed. Their customer service is good and they listen. The last update fixed many issues. Can't speak for the new 780, but my 770 is working great. I still update my car cheapie I bought in March of 2015 for free.Timin770 Thanks this.

I got the darn thing back from the factory January but i was out of the country traveling. I connected it in May and lasted 8 days. Died again. Now i have a paper trail. Im going to send it back for repair. If it comes back again and breaks my attorney will request a refund.

Btw. Sygic has a truck gps app FREE. Don't us the one you have to pay that give you a trial period. There is one that you enter your truck info and so far it routes me thru truck routes. I use it for the HAZMAT routing. So far so good.Metallica88 Thanks this.
