A truck I delivered back on the 13th of last month (15 day pay) still has not been paid as of the 9th. I delivered that truck in North Carolina the day after I picked it up in FL. I ran another back to FL, screwed around trying to fix my truck for 2 days after getting loaded then breaking down for a load going to Idaho.. Ended up emergency buying a truck and outfitting it and delivering that load in ID. Took a few cars from ID to Lousiana then back to FL and the broker still hasn't paid the "15 day" pay..
I called them up ask them where the check was.. They say oh it won't get cut until Monday (yesterday) it's 15 business days they claim... Hummm really? next time, if I run a load for them again I'll tell them it will be delivered only on business days...
Gotta love how #### some of these brokers are and they will be the 1st to cry if you are late and wanting you to run tracking apps or other ######## while crying that all the carriers are garbage..
Imagine if drivers delivered as slow as broker paid...

It is a problem but it's an industry wide problem and it's not really just trucking. I have a friend in the glass business and to keep his biggest contract with UPS he recently had to accept some craziness like 120 day terms.
It could be worse..... -
Here comes the factoring discussion all over again.

I used to keep a color coded book.
Green were good ones
Yellow were the ones that paid, but weren't the greatest. The ones that were good to go in a pinch, but not a goto.
Red were the ones to never touch again....evermwhjr1988, Speed_Drums, GreenPete359 and 2 others Thank this. -

I called them again yesterday and they "claimed" the check was mailed on Tuesday.. Well, they are in Florida and I'm in Florida. as of today I still do not have that check.. It doesn't take 4 days for mail to be delivered in the same state. This isn't a little fly by night broker, it's a bigger one.
Yet you bet your ### if I was late delivering they'd be trying to charge me a penalty or fine.Speed_Drums and IH Truck Guy Thank this. -
So you're saying you are OK waiting 30-60-90 days to be paid from direct customer but not 30 days with a broker?
-
Whoever pays is the one dictating the terms.
If you can't wait for checks a bit
Go on and lease on with Swift.
There you get you checks quick, every week.
But those ain't pretty...
Do you catch my drift? -
Seriously...
30 days....should be the norm and seems fair.
Last week I had to pay a Road Service $1250 on the spot,
I was satisfied with the service and did so. Would the guy who crawled underneath the chassis to replace the carrier bearing want to hear about me paying him in 30 days? I don't think so.
A lawn care company leaves the invoice on the door knob which says due upon receipt...
A plumber unclogging the toilet wants money before he leaves too...
A power company is paid after 30 days
but a load board service is paid in advance - before the service is rendered.
I think we are more or less like plumbers or landscapers - providing one time service - we are contracted per one task at the time - and ought to be paid upon the service completion.
Anything over 30 days is BS. Unless direct freight with stipulated payment terms in the contract but these are substantially different from taking a load at the time from a load board.Last edited: Feb 12, 2021
