Should I consider how close a terminal is when considering who to drive for? I live in Lawrence, KS and there is a huge Swift terminal about 20 minutes away. I know Trans Am is out of Olathe, KS. I am interested in Crete and they have a terminal in KC. But I was also interested in TMC and I believe their closest is Des Moines or Joplin. Should this matter? How important is it to be close to a terminal? Oh, I think Interstae Distributors has a drop yard in Lawrence, or use to.

We used to live 2 hours from a dropyard, and my hubby just bobtailed home. But now we moved too far away and he can't drive his truck home anymore. It is a pain, but not a deciding factor for us when it comes to a company. Sometimes it is better to live farther away because you can only take your truck home if you live farther than 100 miles or so.

It was important for my decision on choosing a Co. whos terminal is close to my home. Where I live I have several terminals close to home. Within 10 miles. I don't like my truck parked at my house. When being serviced I go home and wait. Not that far for my wife to take or P/U me if I need a ride.

LeanaMarrie nailed it. If you have a terminal in your backyard, you're blessed. But otherwise it's better to be more than 100 miles out. It's my understanding that some companies require you to park at the terminal if you're with-in 100 miles. So if the terminal is 95 miles from your home, you may have to arrange for a ride for all your home time... :biggrin_25512: (both ways!).
