    But, in the short term, nothing really changes.
    According to a statement from FMCSA, agency staffers are “analyzing the decision issued today to understand the court’s findings as well as determine the agency’s next steps to prevent driver fatigue, ensure safe and efficient motor carrier operations and save lives. This decision does not go into effect until Sept.14, unless the court orders otherwise.”
    Officials with the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association said that until FMCSA takes some sort of official action truckers should continue operating under the 11-hour driving rule and utilizing the 34-hour restart if needed.
    “The court’s ruling impacts the agency, not the truckers,” said OOIDA President and CEO Jim Johnston. “Truckers should continue operating the way you are until we see some sort of official action out of DOT.”
    And, Johnston doesn’t expect to wait long to hear what the next step will be.
    “I expect DOT to act quickly and implement the changes the court mandated,” hesaid.

    Nothing changes for me, I always go out at night when my hours get low. I haven't had a 34 hr reset all year except to go home and I think once there was just no freight over the weekend or something.
    I probably won't drive more than 11 hrs but it's nice to know that you can if needed.

    Rarely will this help, but for long hauls I could drive until I'm tired and at the truckstop of MY choice farther away instead of 11 hrs, then shutting down at whatever's close.


    I was thinking myself that they need to fix this crap where if you only have 6 hrs worth of work, you can take a 10 hr break in the middle of the day and deliver your load at midnight or 2am when you started your day at 6am.

    BTW This is only about 6 weeks away. This year is almost 7 months old, going on 8.

    You can drive 6 hours and then take a 10 hour break and deliver your load??


    DOT doesn't tell you how many hours you can drive in a 24 hour period, they just tell you that in a 14 hour period you can't drive over 11, then you must take a 10 and you are free again for a new 11/14 hr. I think you meant something else though:biggrin_25525:

    If the 11 hour rule drops back down, I am fine with that. I hardly ever drive 10 hours, and honestly, I don't even try.

    I use the 34 hour restart though, and will quickly miss that.

    The thing that needs to go away is that worthless 14 hour clock that does nothing but lead to more dishonest logging.

    I think th 14 hr clock will be bumped back upto 15 hrs..

    Whatta load of $#!*!
    The crap they should have fixed (Like being able to STOP your 14hr clock) they haven't addressed, and the part that worked fine (34hr reset) they are scrapping. Oh wait, they can still change their minds yet, who knows, maybe we'll see something else come along in the next few weeks.

    Stay tuned sports fans....

    There needs to be a fair panel of people setting this up, including representative of the trucking industry that are not getting their pockets filled by big trucking companies and the government itself. And this goes for every rule that is imposed on the trucking industry.

    But instead, we get a push for change by a bunch of soccer moms who have nothing better to do that complain about those "dangerous trucks", and then we end up with a whole new set of rules that do absolutely no good.

    It's not just trucking that has to deal with this stupid mentality of rule making though, it is everywhere.
