I have a very important question about the medical records that is required to get your CDL, how far back do they go into your past medical records do they go back into your childhood records or is it like only 5 years or something like that.

They don't go back any. They ask YOU to answer certain questions about things you may or may not have EVER had. You can lie and they'll never know, but, remember this if something ever happens they will dig into it then and find out and then your toast. Just be honest up front and you'll be better off.

I have sleep apnea but it is not on my medical card.Companies have a tendency to get crazy with people with sleep issues. My doctor knows about the issues and suggested I go to urgent care for physical and dont mention sleep problems

I've gone thru the "physical" to get my medical card during trucking school, but understand that another one is required by the company you sign on with.

The one I had, did not include a pants down, turn head and cough hernia test, nor did it include the butt poke for examining one's prostate. Nor did it involve anything more than the Dr running his hand up my spine, to see if I had a curvature. That's the only time he touched me.

Not that I'm looking for more fondling, but is the physical for an employer more involved or pretty much the same as my first experience?

Never confuse your DOT medical exam with staying healthy. The less you have to tell the DOT doctor the better.

I had a friend or family member make the mistake of chatting with the nurse prior to his DOT exam about his snoring and difficulty sleeping (he was trying to work nights and sleep days for the first time) and BOOM he suddenly found himself diagnosed with suspected sleep apnea and required to complete a sleep study. Never volunteer info to the DOT doctor and staff, just answer the questions on the form truthfully. "Name, rank, and serial number" You aren't there to have a conversation or have them become your personal doctor.

Don't kid yourself and pretend you aren't healthy if you have anything to worry about. But take those worries to a personal doctor and don't expect the DOT doc to look the other way so you can keep going to work.

There is no "butt poke" as you so exquisitely put it for a DOT physical! :biggrin_2554: Are you sure that was his hand running up your spine?

It does include a hernia test though.

Get a copy of the "long form" and you'll see what the Doc checks. I've had a Doc want to check my prostate one time and I politalitely refused since it's not part of the exam. Medical records are not available to anyone. There is no "central clearing house" for medical records, as a lot of people think. Obviously, you can't lie about scars. And most drugs will show up, illegal drugs that is. I have high BP and take meds, but I don't mention it because they don't show up and I prefer a 2 year card, not a 1 year card. But, honestly if you have serious issues from the past that might affect you and your driving, be honest, because the general public doesn't want you on the road.

Yes I had a problem when I was a kid but have not had the problem in over 30 years, I guess that it is safe to say that I am safe.

I would not worry about anything that long ago.
