    Hi,

I'm completely new to this forum and to the trucking industry in general. I currently live in Ontario, Canada and am interested in getting my AZ license as soon as possible.

I'm almost ready to take the 'A' written test but I have an important concern regarding the medical that's required.

I'm a casual smoker of marijuana (not medical marijuana!! this is important!). If my medical comes back positive (which I'm sure it will, if I were to take it now), can MTO reject my application for 'A' license?

Again, I want to emphasize that it's not medical marijuana so it's not like it's a prescription drug or anything. I haven't gone for my medical or the 'A' written test yet. Only been studying for the knowledge test so far.

I don't know about AZ, but in LA you don't need the medical card for the written exams. I would first get clean for 90 days before doing anything if it were me.

In the US, regardless of what state you reside in, and whether or not they recognize "medical" use of marijuana, it is a federal offense to possess and/or consume marijuana. Therefore, any DOT-related drug screen (FMCSA being a federal agency) would prohibit the use of it. No matter whether you have a "prescription" or not....

IMO? If you really intend to be a commercial driver, plan on getting clean (really clean, not just long enough to pass a drug screen) and staying that way until/unless you retire or change occupations. ANY illegal drug has no place in trucking. Period.

You don't get tested for drugs to get your medical card.

All the answers/replies I've gotten thus far seem to be from American truckers. I'd like to see some replies from Canadian ones since that'll be most relevant to me. Especially since I don't THINK Canada has "medical cards", assuming a medical card isn't the same as a health card.

For starters, there is a Canadian section to the site... So there's that.

But moving on, I myself am a driver in the states. However I've been brushing up on my Canadian law because I intend to move there.

That being said, pot is still an illegal substance despite the fact that it is rarely enforced by the rcmp.

You guys have something similar called a drivers medical. I've posted links below so you can see for yourself, but in short if you're found to be (or have ever been) under the influence of drugs or alcohol then yes your license will be revoked.

    http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/medical-review/standards.shtml

Now then, many (if not all) Canadian regulations mirror the U.S. Regulations with the exception of a select few. The most notable one being that you are not required to carry proof of your medical certificate like we are. (Possession of your license means it is understood that you have passed the medical.)

So to answer your question, yes. They can take it away. the wording implies that a drug screening is done during the process of getting that physical done but that may not be the case. However, should you find yourself in an accident even if you're not at fault, and you test positive then you can expect a lawsuit, to be fired and your license revoked.

So as has already been said..if you're serious about this, then do yourself a huge favor and get clean.

I just finished the written in the last week. First off you have to get your medical cleared before you can even do the written and depending on what the doctor writes on it depends what happens next. It can be sent to the MTO for a variety of reasons and it can take a couple of months to come back. Of course the real issue is if you drop thousands on getting the course done and getting your AZ then no company will hire you if you fail their drug screens.

No Hippie Lettuce, with or without a script. Get clean or don't do it. Probably take 45 days for urine and Gosh knows how long for a hair sample.

If you partake with a CDL you will get burnt for it eventually. You may get by with it for a while , but a random doesn't give you any time to flush.

An accident with injury and that ,or worse, in your bloodstream and these billboard lawyers will be licking their chops like the Big Bad Wolf.

Takes about 90 days if you do it right...

Drink an extra 0.5-1 litre of water daily, this assists only the urine. After 30-45 days, test your urine with a home kit. If clean, shave bald. Everything from head to toe.

Continue drinking water but add a biotin supplement (or take a multivitamin) daily.

Allow it to grow back for two to three weeks and repeat.

Now continue to allow the new hair to grow while still drinking water and taking the supplement.

It isn't by any means a cure all, but Mary Jane is one of those drugs that stays in the system for a long long time.

(Popular question from when I worked in pharmacy.)
