I've been getting a lot of dispatches lately that are either impossible (900 miles in 13 hrs) or just barely legal on paper but not realistic (ex: 615 miles one day thru CA/OR). Every time, I have to lay out the math for them (11x55=, etc).

Anyone else getting this lately, or do I just have the stupid planners?

Freight just gets overbooked and they want you to get done as fast as legally possible. They don't purposely schedule it like that

I would accept that if they weren't upset when you show how long it will take... IE: whadda ya mean it wont be on time?!?!

Yeah, 900 miles in 13 hours is simply impossible. Lucky if you can make 680 and that's if you're already connected to the trailer before you start your clock.

615 through CA is just as nuts.

Then you get the attitude by them. Whatever the reason for this craziness, it's clearly crazy. I suppose you can tell them "OK, I'll do the run, but I can't make it legally in the timeframe you've given. Here's what I can legally do if I don't hit traffic, weather, etc... I could always run this by Safety and see if I'm not figuring this correctly."

it sounds like the disbatcher is using the computer mapping system. it shows stitistical routing miles and time. but it's not accurate. so they get upset when you tell them the reality of the time and it doesn't match what the computer is saying.

My company DOES give a rats rear about "fast and legal". A lot of companies do. So I'm not sure who you are referring to but it's not one of the better companies who do care about safety.

Another big problem is they'll get some snot nose super trucker to do it illegally and turn to you and say.."what's the matter, snot nose just did it yesterday". UGH:biggrin_2552: They're going to have to learn and practice what THEY preach!!! D.O.T is not kidding around and if we HAVE to truck then we HAVE to be legal. End of discussion!
