And that is what your competition looks like. How much do you think those clowns bid for that job?

3.75 a mile... so worse rates than regular flatbed once escort permits etc happen

Have had this done to outfits i was with before, some cool new outfit thinks they can get the freight, and they can, but after a year or two, the customer always came back, or came to us if something needed to be absolutely certain it was protected correctly and time sensitive on delivery (crane beams)

One guy showed up no tarps, 4 chains, one guy cut a festoon wire creating a $15k load claim.

Not to mention they were undercuttng us by at least 2 or 3 times our rate.

More regular freight for me is fine, those loads had a ton of headache in them, compensated or not.

One of the good lessons I learned from a very good friend of mine that has had some very successful companies, not in transportation because he says it's to much of a #### show for him to entertain, is your prices always need to start high, the hardest thing to do in any business, not just transportation, is raise your prices. If you are to high, you can either punt or lower your prices if you figured high. But the hardest thing to do is raise your prices if you are to low.

I hate sticking up for these goofballs because obviously they are pretty good at ####ing up.
That looks like a 48/80 stretch and I’m only 117’ with a sleeper truck and a 53/90. I think the state is counting their rear overhang in the 125’ measurement. That’s disingenuous at best and incompetent at worst. But we know the state would never send a truck on a route that they couldn’t make. Never.

that being said, every time I stretch a trailer more then about 15’ I wish I worked for a company that wasn’t so cheap. Steerable axles must feel like cheating the first time.

That was a favorite trick of the company I did heavy haul for.

Photocopy the original permit, white out this, alter that, change equipment, license plate numbers, etc...

Photocopy again and voila. New permit.

Well it sure bit them in the arse this time lol. When I worked for Pop at Machinery Hauling in the 80’s our permits were 100% right down to the dotted i and crossed t. Although Pop was known to be quite an outlaw in other parts of the business….

The driver of the white truck said the only reason they took the loads was to get out this way for better paying loads going back west to my understanding.

My customer told me he was looking at the overhang behind the trailer, said he shook the beam and noticed the antennas on the truck started moving. Driver told him it was a chore getting this far with the flex in the load….

All the planning and off-track calcs kinda go out the window when the rear overhang grounds and lifts the trailer tires four feet off the asphalt.

When in doubt, throttle out. Or at least throttle as far as you can until you can’t. Lol

Liability insurance is not in effect if no valid permit is in use.
The public is looses 20 IQ points while in view of an Oversize Load sign.
