That sounds like something I could do. I don't have a trailer, but my pickup has a trailer hitch and I could rent a trailer from UHaul or somebody.

    Thanks for the idea.

So, let me get this straight. I don't mean to be rude, but you paid for a driving school, failed the test twice, on what I consider a minor thing, backing in, and now you want to practice on your own dime, haven't you wasted enough money? So much trouble these days seems like backing in. While I'll agree it's important, I feel, if you just can't get it, even after "schooling", you may just not have "it".
And that's another thing, what, these schools take your money, turn you loose and when you fail,,TWICE, are these schools really doing a good job of training? I'd hate to think if they handled airline pilot training , as well.

no, the schools these days are NOT doing a good job..

case in point, i am/was a state Board of Education, Certified Truck Driving Instructor.

(i cannot teach any more, for one, i am retired, and two, i no longer have my CDL..)

but just this morning, as i was heading home for the local Lowe's, there was a tractor-trailer next to me.

i was in the left lane, he was in the right.

i passed him, as he was going slow, no biggie..

i got to the intersection, to make a right turn at the light. (i had returned to the right lane)

what does that FOOL DO....?? i mean FOOL..??

he gets into the left lane, to make that right turn.....

FULLY IN THE LEFT LANE, to make a RIGHT TURN.

what do you think i see, as i made that turn...??

a car coming up THE RIGHT LANE.....

the dumbarse trucker (i call him that with a sarcastic twinge to my voice) had NO CHOICE, but to STOP...

had there been an accident, i can assure you, i would have been a very good witness for the car driver.

i am sick as can be, of these morons, behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler.

i guess button hook turns are not taught anymore.......

I think my school was really good.

I was able to do the 90° when I was at the school, I just let my nerves get the best of me when I'm testing and I mess up.

The school has allowed me to come back to practice, even though I've already finished the course. They are continuing to allow me to use their truck to test, even though I've already taken it.

They haven't asked me for a penny extra.

The reason I'm thinking about alternatives is because I realize that I am no longer a student at the school, and I don't think it is fair to the current students to use up seat time that they could be practicing for their tests.

Because the solution is something as simple as not turning in so fast, I figure that it would be ridiculous to give up because of it.

I'm not a quitter. I will do what it takes until I get my CDL.

You paid to be trained. You aren't trained. Use the truck and smile. You paid for it.

at the 2 schools i worked at (at different times), they had a "dedicated' set up for the DMV tests, using a school truck, that was not in any way taking time from the other students.

now, if your school is small or space is limited, i can understand that they cannot do that.

so if appointment times are needed, make them and KEEP THEM...

you will pass, just CALM DOWN...######............(lol)

When I was learning (it seems like a zillion years ago) I had to learn fast as my uncle was NOT a patient man and welded a wooden ruler with a metal edge ... sorry I digress. What I'm trying to say is to this day, I back up better on the blind side than I ever have on the drivers side. Why who knows (no female jokes because I am a female, please) I just do. It took me about 2 days of the wooden ruler correction method to figure it out. My uncle could never figure it out and I stopped worrying about it when I figured out that not everyone can blindside back. Just remember, take your time, take a deep breath and ignore the people that try to rush you. The ones that you allow to rush you will be the ones that laugh when you back into something. There is NO shame is getting out to look. Another idea would be to get a radio controlled tractor trailer and practice with it as it will let you see from a birds eye view what happens when you do different things. Amazon.com : remote control tractor trailer trucks
So what YOU have to do if figure out what works for you.
Good luck and keep us posted
