But I think what is causing some folks' hair to fall out is not the idea of a dash cam facing outward, it is the dash cam that is also recording the driver.

front facing cameras aren't invasion of privacy... The voice recorder in a day cab defintley not either, But in a sleeper cab? that might be different....

    That's not true.

    That's not true either.

What really happens. The "remote location" is the safety department. They can access both sides of the camera any time they want to. The little lights that flash when it's recording, won't flash if they're accessing the camera and watching you. In fact, with any laptop, they can record you via their location without the lights on the drive cam flashing. Why? Because the drive cam isn't the one recording you.

If the company has an outside monitoring company, they can still gain access, via the internet on any driver that has the cam...

All that stuff the safety guys tell you, about 1/2 of it is true. But the important parts, about not being able to see you when they want to, isn't.

If your name isn't on the title & registration, then the driver has no privacy. It's their truck. Not the drivers privacy.

Trucks don't kill people. The person behind the wheel does that. I have yet to see anyone give one good reason for a camera facing the driver. They will not make anyone a safer driver. They will not save lives. They are another form of control and intimidation by the people who own the trucking company. The DOT will never make cameras mandatory unless they have proof that it will make trucks and drivers safer. They can't do so, and if they did ever manage too, there really will be a driver shortage. I don't think there are very many.people who will go along.with such a gross invasion of there privacy.

You're right. Absolutely. This is the same argument I've had with DOT cops and safety directors about log books. But for some reason, they all think that lines on a piece of paper is the ONLY thing making drivers safe. HA HA HA HA HA

we have lost a ton of freedom since 911
every step of the way you have had company men who say" if your not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about"
that notion would justify a camera in your home.
you must let them pile the gadgets on you and monitor your sleep, weight, respiratioms orgasms and such until you gain enough experience to get a life of your own. many will just move to the next mega and further the ata agenda sad to say
