This is most shocking revelation of this thread. There are drivers who still use CD's. :biggrin_2555:

Haha, I know right. I don't know why, I'd just rather listen to CCR on CDs instead of my MP3 player. But that's because I don't own a vinyl record player, or I'd have one put in my truck.

Ah I'm just messin' with you. But your post did remind me that I tend to stay near the bleeding edge when it comes to that sort of thing. I forget that sometimes. Its probably been 7 years since I've used a CD to listen to music. Up until maybe 4 years ago I was still buying music on CD, but only because I didn't care for Apple's licensing policies and Amazon's mp3 selection really wasn't up to snuff yet. But for quite a few years now, I've had our entire library on my phone/ipod and also on a giant network hard drive that any computer or TV in the house or my shop can access. Lately though, I find myself just going to pandora because its easier than putting together 100 song playlists (I like long playlists).

Between my wife and I, we've probably got about 500 CD's in our collection. The movers packed them in boxes the last time we moved house and we've never bothered to unpack them. They're not really worth much and we have no desire to get rid of them. But we also have no desire to unpack them for any reason. I think we're keeping them just for nostalgia even though they're packed away. Weird.

I'm stuck in a time warp. Still have (and listen to) more than six hundred albums in my vinyl collection spanning five decades, going back to the '60s. Use a Technics turntable (diamond stylus, of course), Marantz 2265 receiver, Akai reel-to-reel, Jensen digital (first model) floor-mounts, Bose 501's up high on the wall and Bose 901's (the original pair) sitting on top of the Jensen speakers. Have a pair of Jensen triaxle thin-mounts in the pickup. If you listen to any digital recording and then play back the same album you can hear so much of what is lost in the digital translation. The comparisons are striking, especially in regard to the crisp highs, and rich, low bass sounds. Also have an 8-track player that still works (although I don't use it) and about 20 or so 8-tracks I just can't seem to toss (tunes from the high school muscle car days). When my dad passed away and I went north to clean out the house years ago and grab my old albums, my daughter, who was about 9 at the time, said, "Whoa, those are some huge CDs." I understand nostalgia. Just call me "Throwback."

Haha, couldn't help it. When he mentioned CDs and "nostalgia" in the same breath, I had to chime in.

That's more than nostalgia there. That's an appreciation for the analog warmth and subtle high end distortion that is nearly impossible to replicate with digital stuff. I love the convenience and portability of digital. And the frailty and lack of portability of vinyl is a deal breaker for me. But nothing can hold a candle to the sound of clean vinyl through a solid amp and decent speakers.

I have been involved with these types of FMCSA Field tests before and usually they have a very noble purpose such as validating an environmental problem such as traffic, driver vehicle interaction, or safety systems that can be used by the trucking industry to reduce crashes, property damage, injuries and fatalities. From what I have seen, the in-cab video never makes it to anyone's eye but the scientists/technologists doing the study. Like I said, the purpose is very noble.
