Then it's not that much of a stretch to say the feds can eventually require these in all vehicles (including personal) using the exact same reasons you mention to exonerate or blame the driver "if a driver has an accident." I agree. It's another nail.

I kind of admire them in a sick way. I'll try not to make general statements here because we're all individuals, so I should make it clear that these comments are directed only at those truthers that I've actually met or spoken with. IME, they all seem to live in a world where nearly everything is cut and dried black and white. For them, you're either a believer and thus on their side, or you're an ignorant sheep who is too dumb to see the truth. There seems to be no possibility for any in between in their world. Irrefutable facts that don't fit into their model are simply disregarded as though they don't exist or written off as some sort of red herring which was planted by some nefarious group to lead you off the scent.

There is an elegant simplicity to living your life that way which reminds me of the way life was when I was a 5 year old and your world consisted only of friends and enemies with no in between and the rules of both life and physics were very simple and could be changed on a whim if we didn't like how things were going. I really sort of admire those who can commit to living as adults in that sort of simplistic world and make it work for themselves. I certainly couldn't do it.

Which is why I say the smart money should get out of the industry now and beat the mad rush that will surely come when these cameras are required and drivers leave the industry in droves.

Here I may agree that you have a point
Just what are these drivers going to do for a living when they leave the industry?

    maybe thats the whole plan

get rid of the old-heads, bring in youngsters from the mill and from other countries, pay them 10 cpm, have them hooked up better than an MRI, 55mph governed truck and plan freight weeks in advance

That's not your problem. The point is they're going to need to do something else. And chances are at least some of them are going to end up trying to do whatever it is that you decide to try to do. If you make the jump now, you won't be competing for those other jobs with the drivers who decide that this is the last straw and leave the industry over it. Better to jump a little too early than a little too late.

Well as you've no doubt figured out, I'm not much for big mean government conspiracy theories like that. But I don't doubt that there are those within the government and within the industry in general who wouldn't mind seeing the old school run three logbooks and do it all my way or the highway kind of drivers vanish from the industry. And to that end, I wouldn't be surprised if doing things that might motivate those types of guys to leave is thought of as a sort of added bonus side effect when considering regulation changes. The attitude being they'll change or they'll go, either way we get what we want seems very plausible.

I remember a time when two logbooks were the norm for many, if not the majority of drivers, one for you, one for the man. It's where the term "swindle sheet" came from. Of course, such a comment is dating myself and showing my age.

No. I didn't mean to insinuate that you did. In fact I wasn't really talking about you at all with those comments, but rather the highway cowboys that existed back when I was kid in the 70's. Poor choice of words on my part. And if you were in fact one of those drivers who was on the road back when I was kid, then I apologize again. Was talking more of the myth/legend than any actual person.
