Back in 2006 I got my Class A CDL license. I never went to a formal training school, an uncle of mine, who is an experience driver trained me, I went to and tested, BAM, got my license.
I worked for a couple tank truck companies, carrying water to oil rigs between 2006-2012. (I have tank endorsements). Then in Sptember of 2012 I moved states and started working at a local Trash/Recycling center. I worked as a driver. They required a class B license, it was local job, home every night, good pay plus benefits so I stayed until 2015.
While driving for this company back in March 2014 I received a ticket for failing to obey road signs (I was driving my personal vehicle on my way to work at 5am and got pulled over for not making a complete stop).
Then in August 2014, while working my route a guy said that I had hit the side of his vehicle with my trash truck. I to this day I say it was BS. This guy's house was on my Wednesday Route and didn't bother to contact my employer till that next Monday. The only evidence they had were pictures of the truck (which their truck was white and our trucks were green and their car didn't have an inch of paint on it) and saying that my truck was the only one on the street during the time their truck was believed to have been hit because that is what a neighbor told them. Also, I would have noticed if I hit another vehicle and I would have never just left and not reported it., but I digress.
My lawyer (provided by my employer) said I should pay the fine and move on. I could have appealed it, but in the moment I just wanted to move on so I did.
Then, in October 2014 I was driving to my route. 7am, moderate traffic on interstate 70, when an accident happened a few are away from me. Traffic came to a halt in a matter of seconds and I was unable to stop my several ton truck in time. I ended up rear-ending the vehicle in front of me. No one was injured, but I received a ticket for following too closely.
Fast forward to TODAY, it's been almost two years since all these incidents and I am trying to find an OTR job, however, I don't know if any companies will even look at my application yet. I did get a call from one company saying I needed to go to CDL driving school, however I already have my CDL License.
Here are some questions:
Is there a company out there that would hire me now?
Do I need to go to driving school? Would that improve my chances of getting hired since I never went to one?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
In need of serious advice, hoping some experience drivers can shed some light.

Yes, you can get a job.
No, you don't have to go to a school but if OTR is what you're looking for, you'll end up getting a trainer at least a couple of weeks if not more.
Call SWIFT. Stop driving crazy out there!Vloza1983 Thanks this. -
You can find a job, it just will take you a bit longer. The following to close is one of the major wrecks but it is going on two years now so that is better. They all are going to want you to have resent over the road experience so that is why the trainer will be required.

It may take longer, but that is a critical violation and a big no no. This is why a dash cam is important. Try Swift, their pay is way better now. Also, they do have Dash Camera's built it at no charge.

Learn to stay back, and always run a dash cam.
I won't drive 10 feet without one. -
Id say you will have a problem getting something until the Following Too Close/Accident drops off. Just be careful until it does. Thats a serious offense. If you get another within 3 years of that one, youll probably be disqualified for 60 days.
Im really surprised you havent already received a disqualification because failing to obey traffic control devices (stop sign) used to be a serious offense? (maybe because it was in your personal vehicle, they didnt count it or something?) Good luck.Last edited: Jul 15, 2016
