Hey everyone! I'm currently attending a private driving school which is highly respected in my community and have a perfect driving record. I heard that all "new" drivers have to work for a "break-in" company for three months to gain experience before looking for a better job such as line haul or dedicated runs. Is this true? If I work for one of these "break in" companies will I HAVE to drive OTR or can I work regionaly o locally? Any feedback would be helpful.

No, you don't HAVE to work OTR first. However, you will discover that it might be pretty difficult to find exactly what you are looking for right out of the gate without experience. But it has been done, so don't give up. Be persistent in your job hunt because those jobs do exist for newbies, but they can be very elusive.

Most company's do require OTR and yes there are better company's out there other then the big 6.

Go to favorite co. and look around there are some good starter company's you may even want to stay with a while.

    Good Luck:biggrin_255:

Keep in mind. If you narrow your search to the kind of job you want. It will take time.

The clock will start ticking when you get your "certificate". If you fail to find a job wthin a certian period time. You will have to go BACK to school for a refresher.

So don't think you can hold out for 4-6 months waiting on the perfect job. You can't.

Well, thanks to the advice of many people in here I have finally narrowed the search, did my homework and will now be calling Watkins & Shepard home. Not just for now but for the long haul. No pun intended...well, maybe just a little! LOL! They seem like a good company to work. Everything they have told me has happened exactly the way they said it would...NO surprises. I will do the OTR for 90 days and then perhaps some opportunities will arise for regional or local in my area. Either way they were the only company, that I could find anyway, that no one in this forum has posted negatively about! Now as much as I value people's opinions here that says a LOT to me. I will keep you posted.
