I looked into my crystal ball.

A lime green vest and a garbage truck. They told you there is a driver shortage. That was a terminological inexactitude to say the least.

This comes up a lot. A lot of people get into trucking after "trying everything else". They want to turn their lives around, or got in some trouble and want to cool off and think. Many people are sick of being around jerks and want to work alone and be by themselves all day. You have thousands of people restructuring their lives and going to CDL schools, many with minor scrapes with Johnny law. There is no driver shortage. 20 million new drivers came pouring in and they have no record. They are clean slates, literally. So you are competing with them. You will find a job. Someone will hire. The thing is, they know they can kind of push someone like this around and s*****t all over them because they don't have 3 or 4 freight companies texting them trying to recruit them. Their options are so limited they need to drive for a while and put up with whatever comes their way to pay the bills and establish a driving resume'. Some felonies don't mean you won't find a job. But you will definitely not have any leverage in your dealings with what few potential employers you encounter in the near future. They know it and will exploit this. They know you are desperate. They see this every day and some look for this type of driver. We wish you all the best, but this is as candid and honest as I can be on this subject.

Many or most people outside of trucking think trucking hires felons without even checking their background. It hasn't been like that for decades but the news outlets don't update their stories they just edit the story they ran 5 years ago with a different person and trucking company in the story this time. Plus someone, probably CDL schools, is putting posters and pamphlets in the waiting rooms at DUI courts, jails, bus stations, etc trying to cash in on the people going through a hard time.

Do a search on here for " felony". There were some guys who had them, and did alright.

I would advise you go to a vocational school for a trade. Or college for health or i.t. nurses are in demand everywhere. Ive known of some who are hard partiers, but I'm not endorsing that. Just saying how hospitals don't care ( ironically).

Absolutely! You can be a tradie and do ok. AC, plumbing stuff like that. Especially AC. I know someone who's kid is looking at appliances for warranty calls, doing good. He's definitely not bright. Doesn't even fix the things. Just shows up, takes them apart, sees what is wrong and orders the parts then schedules the techs to come out when the parts come in. I know a lot of people making really good money doing AC or plumbing though. If I had a kid that I had to have the talk with, that would get discussed.
