Roehl has a newer terminal just south of ATL, has a great training program for new, or relatively new, drivers, and has a home time plan avail of 10 days out, 2 days home. I've been with them a year, next month!
Marky84 and daddy2twins Thank this. -

Ive been reading (lurking) around here for a year now. Great forum. Lots of info. Time to jump in
Im planning on retiring from a 32 yr teaching career in June 2014. I live in western NY near Rochester/Buffalo. Im leaning toward flatbedding also. I will still have a child in college nearby in buffalo so hometime is important for the first year only. Some of the companies mentioned here are on my short list except for Cypress, McElroy and Boyd (out of area).
Looking at Roehl-Maverick-Melton-TMC- .?
Should I be looking at any others in my area? Some smaller regional carrier? Even if it's not flatbed.
Chinatown; I noticed you didnt mention Roehl. Any particular reason?
Thanks for any help, greatly appreciated -
If I were you, I would stick with my current company until you have at least a year of solid driving experience. Your options will be much greater after your first year. When you change jobs after only a few months, it begins to appear that you are someone who may move around a lot. Carriers like to see potential drivers who can stick with a company for longer periods of time. At this point, you are still learning how to drive. There are a lot of flatbed carriers who run out of south Georgia. You could even haul containers out of Savannah or one of the other nearby ports. If you want to go with flats, there are a number of options. Your problem may be finding a carrier who can get you home every weekend. You might also check to see if there are any owner operators who are leased to carriers that might want a driver.daddy2twins Thanks this. -
Prime has a S.E. regional flatbed and told me that I would be home every 7 to 14 days on it with me living near the Springfield MO terminal. You might talk to them since you live smack in the middle of that area, they might agree to have you home once a week.
