There will be some knowledgeable drivers showing up for orientation too. There will be a guy that starts volunteering employment history (in the first five minutes of conversation, he will tell you, without your inquiring, where he worked at, how long he has been driving, the company he came from....etc). That's the universal sign of a bonafide Supertrucker. Avoid him, he's an idiot. He can't drive and what he's going to try to do is put everyone else down to make himself look better. Never give an idiot an audience.
The guys you're looking for have driven before, but they don't feel threatened by new blood, so they don't feel the need to put you beneath them. They can help you along the way. If there's something you don't understand, in particular, the HOS or securement, and you see them in the evening, ask them. Orientation can be a madhouse for a rookie and the people doing the orientation may or may not explain things in a way that makes sense to you.
One more thing. Avoid the negative talk. There will be one person there that will have something negative to say about everything. Walk away.
