It is a progression of things to look for on a pretrip. There may be 100 lines but a lot of those lines may pertain to the same part.
Don't worry, you will get it! -
18 wheels and 18 air holes, boom you just got 36 out 100. I failed my pretrip, cause I only did one tire lol

Start with one point and work your way around the truck in order. Don't try to do the list in order or you will be all over the place.

In my state, they had an abbreviated version of that list that they used on the test, and we only had to go down the drivers side. Every state is different, and every agency within the state may do things a little different, so it's hard to say how things will go for you.
Just keep going over it again and again, you might just surprise yourself when all the sudden you have it nailed. Every day hundreds of idiots get their cdl, so it must not be that hard. Good luck!91B20H8 Thanks this. -
Hey buddy, just wanted to share something that really helped me when I was in school , just for the record I have watched over 15 times . ..I hope this could be very helpful to you as it was to me...good luck!

Agree totally above... take your time, focus on groups (smaller chunks) on the truck, work your way around the truck group by group, do it the same every time, parts are repetitive of other parts, say everything out loud when practicing, etc
If you have a voice recorder or recorder app on your smartphone, record your self saying it all the way through and then listen to it as you look down the checklist.
As mentioned above, for the actual test I only had to do 1/3 of the truck and passenger side only.... but don't count on that.
Good Luck and report back when you PASS!!!! -
Another simply way it to just touch every single part and say your looking to make sure it's secured not broken or leaking or rubbing like air like or coolant hoses. It seem kinda silly to say stuff like I'm checking the steering gear box bolts to make sure they are not broken or lose. But that what they want you to do. Or say I'm check coolant tank to make sure it not cracked and full and secured to the truck and nott leaking. Because these new plastic tanks to crack as they get older. That why you can basically just touch every part and say I'm checking to make sure it secure not leaking or broken.

When I was in school we filmed the instructor with our phones. He also said to ALWAYS follow the same routine and it will become a simple process. Also, it doesnt hurt to look at everything just to be safe. Use online videos and tests too. Good luck.
