I have to agree, the 3408 cat is one sweet sounding engine.
Under a hard pull with some nice pipes, ....... Music!! -
Very old video but here it is. 8v92 reving over 4500 RPM, well that is what I have been told and also runs on propane.

I like the N14 with not to restrictive muffler. Cummins has a deep throaty low rpm sound that is always associated with big trucks.
1693 cat sounds great going down the road but at idle sounds like it has marbles inside the combustion chamber.
I had the opportunity to rebuild one of 1693 cyclinder heads once and didn't think it was ever going to stop coming in the building. You didn't throw it around like a cummins heads and turn it over by hand that's for sure. You had to have power equipment to move that baby.
B model Cats have a good sound as well as old 2 stroke Detroits.
Old Macks sound good too when you hear one opened up a little.puncher Thanks this.
