There are some good aspects to running the east coast. Driving up and down I-95 and making deliveries should teach a driver how to make smart decisions and how to simply think critically. If all the trucking you do is drive between Phoenix and El Paso on I-10 you will never be prepared to handle a trip into the northeast New Jersey area. Guess what? if you drive like this you have just limited your usefulness to your employer. If you were driving for me and had no east coast ESPECIALLY Northeast experience I would never allow you to drive there in my truck. Best to consider learning this area as a rite of passing. In my humble opinion until you learn how to navigate this area you would be of NO USE to me as an OTR driver! Be mindful of this because jobs change.

Everywhere sucks for different reasons. Out west, it's mostly mountains. If you're a company driver, stick to the west or midwest, preferably both. If you're an owner or lease, getting a percentage, all the higher paying freight seems to be out east.
