Sure why not at least back then they all stood for something. Look around you at the truck stops what do you see? I believe in honor and integrity what do you believe? I believe in freedom what do you believe? I believe that if the little independent carriers decided to work together instead of being controlled by the puppet masters that they once again could experience that freedom. It only takes a spark to get the fire going but most today don't even know how to start a fire without a push button to start it for them.

Like I said earlier I am a dreamer, go ahead and poke fun at me. At least I call my own shots and those that work with me love the freedom and the fun that we get to have. That is why we all got into trucking in the first place, we are just trying to reach out and share that with the rest of you.

You can make the decision for yourself like all others, either like it for what it is or stand up and change it.

I wasn't poking fun at anybody. I was merely saying that's the way It was in the 70s. Back when a man could make a comment without some jerk wad jumping down his throat for it. Maybe practice what you're preaching?

Was not trying to be a jerk wad towards you. I was just answering your question, and then asked a few of my own. Normally people don't call me a jerk wad they usually call me an ahole.:)

That is what the puppet masters seem to think about me at least, but the funny thing is they still use our services and pay our rates. Like I always tell them you don't have to like me to respect me. I see many a trucker walking around with their heads looking down at the ground when they walk, I on the other hand walk with my head held high. I like what I do, I like the freedom that my job gives me, I just don't like the way our industry has been downtrodden and regulated by those that seem to want to turn the trucker into a prisoner in a moving box.

I guess fighting for freedom for our country must of influenced me to wonder why when I came back home and looked around I saw others give it up for security. My dad and I just want to recapture a little of the fun of trucking like it was in the old days. He is 70 now and still loves to drive and will be coming back out in the spring for me, I told him the other day that there are a group of old timers (and yes some of them are from the 70's) joining me to recapture some of the honor, integrity, and fun that we used to have years ago.

Like I ask my men if we can't have fun doing what we are doing, then why in the heck are we doing it?

I don't use language like #######. I don't want my son using it so I do not use it myself. I was merely pointing out that what you are describing is the way it was in the 60s & 70s, back when driving a truck was a respected profession. Back when people took pride in what they did and wore slacks and button down collar shirts and were role models for kids. Sadly, those days are long since past and no matter how much you wish and dream it's gone like smoke on a windy day. Pre cell phone, pre laptops, pre sandals and shorts and grimy hats on the heads of steering wheel holders with bad attitudes. Back when people still knew how to read maps and plan routes and run together not because they had to but because they wanted to. Are those the days you speak of? Sigh.........anyway.......hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

Yep those are the days that I was talking about, except don't want to go back to those old beater style trucks. I remember dad hitting a pothole and me hitting my head on the top of the cabover. I remember sleeping on the doghouse, no AC and the such. I also remember exactly what you are talking about. That is how we still function and operate, I posted this because right now there are many of us hurting out here and the reason why is many have forgot the honor and integrity from days gone by. I felt if I shared how we functioned that maybe it would pass on to others that felt the same way. It saddens me that our industry has become the sewer pit that it now is, as well as the majority of our nation, as well as the rest of the world as a whole. We are all about me and not about we. Honor and integrity used to mean something now it is just a old fashioned ideal that has become a joke.

I am thankful that we at my company still believe in it and operate by it. I am sure there are others out there that are like that as well. I hope all have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow and remember to be thankful for our freedom (what little we have left) while we are enjoying time off with our families or are stuck at a truck stop on the road. Just remember there are troops still deployed not at home fighting for our freedom and lets not forget to say a prayer of thanks for them and their families as well.

Peace to you and yours Rock n Roll and to all the others as well.

Yes, I remember those old trucks well. They SUCKED!

The problem is that the people you are talking about are too young to remember those days and don't have the upbringing to be able to comprehend it. You are now dealing with the 'ME' generation and the days you long for and reminisce about are long since past, only to be remembered in the minds of those like us who wish for them every day.

    Again, sad but true.

I was given the news 9 months ago that I probably have about two years left to live short of a miracle so I am very thankful for the time I have here. I am tired from years of illness and wouldn't care but I have a son who is almost ten and the thought of leaving him is beyond my realms of expression......

I fought for that freedom myself, but when I came home I had people waiting at the airport who tried to spit on me. I know the troops today don't get the appreciation they deserve, but at least they won't have that to deal with. Regardless, I agree with you. We need to think about them and offer thanks to them any time we can.

And to you as well my friend. Stay safe and don't let it all get you down. It could always be worse.....

There's still some people that resemble your points. I become ecstatic when I meet people of a similar mindset to that of the older generation. You know, help because they want to, run with you or let you run with them, or even actually have a brain in their head with loads of common sense and knowledge.
The first couple times I brought my girlfriend with me, she couldn't get over how different the industry was. Now when she joins, all I hear is "why can't I wear flip flops". I had to ban them in my truck... lol
