The pay at irt sucks. Period. You don't get detention. You don't get paid for any kind of waiting. During the summer you will do a lot of sitting because there aren't many loads. Financially, not everyone can wait around until it picks back up. Forget about going anywhere but the midwest, NE and SE most of the time if you're a winter haven driver. Forget about long loads going east to west or west to east most of the time also. If you're a winter haven driver, forget about the northwest period. It's my favorite region of the country and I never got anywhere close to it in 8 months.
ANY kind of work that needs to be done to the truck will ONLY be done if it's covered under the warranty. If it's not, you're screwed. Everything about irt that involves money sucks. The owner is a cheap son of a b!tch, and it shows. However, while you're sitting around for free in Jersey or Pennsylvania or Douche City Massachusetts or Hickville Georgia waiting for a washout or a load, (a load that might cause you to be over gross because you committed the ultimate sin of having more than two drops of fuel in your tanks when you arrived at the shipper) you'll be doing it in a brand new fancy shmancy Peterbilt that the idiots in the shop won't leave alone when it's parked at the terminal, even if it just had a PM done to it an hour ago and it hasn't been parked on the yard long enough for the engine to get cold.
The rest of the company is great.Last edited: Aug 3, 2012

Somethin about the Rabi rejecting the load because dairy/grape was a prior on the wash ticket. Ended up with apple cont to Virginia, now I'm attempting a wash in Delaware then load apple juice in up up upstate new York and deliver in Ellington, ct. I asked if the tank needed to be kosher, they said dont worry about it. I said OK
if that #### gets rejected because they didn't have a priest spit in the tank and say some blessed words over the manhole before it gets sealed at the tank wash it wont be my fault. not sure if the cream will show up on the prior either. Guess I need to call and double check that.

Ellington, Ct waiting on an empty. Guy said they will start unloading our tanks around eight tonite.

How strict is IRT on logs?
-
They're still on paper, and as long as what's on the log is legal, you're good. They don't compare it to the qualcomm or anything like that. Above average company, average maintenance dept, below average on pay. They are stingy. There is no detention pay. Layover is only paid after 48 hours. Live loading and live unloading at most customers takes forever, and most of the customers are either a live load, live unload, or both. Lots of northeast. Winter is wall to wall busy. Summer is slower than a retarded family of snails. There's money to be made, but only if you're getting good miles, because mileage pay is about all you're gonna get. All receipts for all tank washes must be scanned with your paperwork, otherwise the cost of the washes are taken out of your check. This does not include washes done at the terminals, obviously.
I was treated very well by everyone. But again, the pay sucks.Snappshot Thanks this. -
