I had pretty much the same experience. That said, my dad never humiliated me. That's kinda low in my opinion.

I totally agree... In this new age world where its nearly a crime to offend ANYONE, in even the slightest way... We are raising a generation of softies, and that will come back to haunt this country.

I was raised that "You reap what you sow." Want to act like a dipstick, then you can be treated like a dipstick until you prove otherwise.

I do feel for the parents though, I cant imagine what they must be going through.

Low yes, criminal no. But this is what has come about due to all the traditional disciplinary actions being criminalize.

We've had kids killed here after being returned home. The State resources are stretched too thin & far too often Foster Parents realize way too late: "I can't handle this ####."

I worked Section 21 (subsidized In-home care for person's with diagnosed developmental disabilities & behavioral struggles) for 9 years contracted by the State. I'm admittedly very slow to burn, but there were some days where if I hadn't stayed my hand.... I'd be in jail for beating up retarded people. Maybe prison for killing one particular individual.

My parents were old school. Beat the hell out of me, humiliated me, all of the above. Not long after I got my license, I saved up and bought a heap of a car. And then I drive 1300 miles to an older sibling who had years earlier escaped the hell that was our house. I was still a minor, but parents didn’t care. They were happy I was gone and I never went back. Been on my own since I was 16. So stories like this definitely touch a nerve. Hope the kid is ok.

And those of you who think it’s ok to beat a child til they are black and blue I truly pray you never have children. If you did and beat them I’d be the one calling the law on you .

Spanking a kid and beating them until they are black and blue and completely different things. My parents never abused me yet I did get an occasional spanking. But all my mom had to say was "Wait until your dad gets home" and I would straighten up. Dad had a razor strop that he never used on us, but the threat of him doing so was all it took.

There were a couple of generations raised like this. Doesn't make it right.
