Lets just compare stopping distance for a 4000 lb van to 30000 lb ety and 80000 lb loaded truck. Any questions?

I have family that live in that area and the news there is reporting that the minivan had no lights after its impact with the deer. If you've ever traveled that stretch of highway, you know how dark it gets. Police are also saying that you can tell the driver swerved and locked up the brakes to avoid the minivan. From the pics looks like he clipped it with the front passenger corner of his tractor.

    Sad day.

usually i am quick to point fingers when it comes to a rear-ender how ever in this case, why not let the investigators do their job first before the noose gets tightened. bad enough one of the dead was an infant.

I agree, but usually a rear-ender is almost always the fault of the person behind....Unless one has a dash cam (or witnesses) giving details about cars that cut us off and stuff...

And the press (and others) always blame a trucker. Not always sure why.
Maybe cause we are supposed to be the "Professionals"....

I really don't know what to say - this was a tough accident to read about...but why 10 people in the van?

And i agree with you 100% about rear- enders however there is always a possibility of a Med. cond. or equip./brake failure. only Mr. Roehl knows and i bet his lawyer told him to Zip it Up!

Anyone every think that mini van didnt have any brake lights? I seen more than one car come out of Chicago without any brake lights or lights at all.

What if the truck had hit the deer, and the lights went out, and the van hit the truck.

Would the van have been at fault?

Or the trucker still at blame?
