Are they serious? Do they patrol? Am I gonna get a knock on my window at midnight?

Which one? If it's one of the standard interstate rest areas, you'll be fine.

On I70 just west of Indy.

There's a "No Overnight/No Camping" sign just as you come in. That was a surprise.

Most have a live caretaker, I'd ask in Indiana. Welcome centers have those signs up often, but I have been told elsewhere to ignore it if I needed the break.

I think they're mostly concerned about people on road trips camping out in the rest area and turning it into their tailgate party. Just my guess. It's a "rest" area, the point is to go there and rest. Right??? At least one would think...lol

In Texas the only rule is you can't remain in a rest area for more than 24 hrs so no rest area resets guys!
