Last year I saved a lot of time running that area taking 74 instead. There was some really bad backups in the construction zones
Indy to Akron, I-74 instead of I-70?

i70 is hit or miss with delays. simply the luck of the draw. i don't drive during the day so i can't offer much advice in that regard. i74 is a much easier road at night and sometimes we take that route vs i70 to columbus & eastward.
i live <10 miles from whiteland. -
Yeah that’s a good way too. Just that little jaunt through Celina it’s mostly 65 and 70 other than the two lane stretch on 18/67 in the Hoosierjamespmack Thanks this.

74 is down to one lane both ways around Shelbyville for 10? Miles…It’s still faster than I-70 though.
But for Akron, I’d follow some of the northern routes suggested.. -
Is this to avoid the construction? I drive 70 Indy to Columbus once a week.
I don’t know 40. -
Yes, if you check google maps ahead of time for how bad 70 is it may save you some time, if headed west, go down on in-3 (spiceland) up on in-9 (greenfield) *if its finished*, or just run us-40 all the way to 465, running n600w then 70 vs straight to 465 is about a wash.
It costs about 20 minutes of time over i 70 being open preconstruction. -
Used it most of the time heading back to indy last year. Would take centerville exit down to US40, sometimes all the way to 465Eowyn Thanks this.

I ended up taking I-70 after all, as Google Maps said it was the faster route when I was leaving. Just that one construction bottleneck, not too bad.
