I wouldn’t be concerned with Walmart or Targets numbers
Many times it’s a number that went down from last years major boom
People are still going to need and buy certain things
If your personal household money is tight then you go from steak to chicken or whatever but until you hit bottom and some will but others won’t you will still buy

I said it the first time I ever walked into a Walmart
That we or they don’t need a store like that. We all know what they carry and could easily just order it
This was before the big online era but look at what they can get rid of
No stocking of shelves, the robot just needs enough room to grab your order
Isles would be closer for same reason and less space overall would be needed and no check outs or large numbers of work comp grabbing employees

    Look at old towns
The store had all your basics covered and if you needed a specialty item then you ordered it but we today we want it now and Amazon has cracked that nut too

The main point being that this system only works if the machine keeps churning. It's all connected. Corporation beats projected earnings so they pay more taxes on the revenue, the share price goes up and the investors pay more capital gains, the company buys more trucks, chemicals, whatever, and pays more sales taxes. The entire machine is geared towards profitability which ultimately means labour reduction.

Ah yes, the "growth" model of buisness end tax management. It is an interesting tool used by government to supposedly stimulate hiring or increase tax revenue but realistically rewards buisnesses for cutting staff/replacing them with automation and using poor cash management to avoid paying more in taxes.

Ive never understood how such a thing is allowed to stay around. Cash positivity is discouraged
