Hello all,
I am sort of at a stand still here. My husband and I are leasing on with another company in Virginia, and we need to transport our truck from Kansas to Virginia. I was quoted $600.00 for permits and I here that the process should be cheaper. The following are questions I need answers to:
1. Is a Hunter's Permit accepted in all states? I was told some states do not recognize it. What is the cost? Can I get it from any state or do I have to acquire it from my home state?
2. Is there a such thing as temp. insurance for this purpose? Do you know of a company? OOIDA was not helpful in this case.
Any information would be helpful.

You need non-trucking liability (Bobtail Insurance) your not under dispatch and not hauling a load so this will cover you. Most companies require this even if you are leased onto them. The company you are leasing to might help you with this. OOIDA won't insure you because you are not leased to someone at the present time, OOIDA insurance sucks anyway and it is expensive.
Try PJC Insurance in Springfield, MO ask for Patti.
If you do the Hunters permit you will have to get one from each State.
I have went out of state to lease onto carriers in the past and just loaded up the truck and went without any permits and never had a problem.
Do you a tag on the truck? -
No, the tags are going to be taken off.

I would keep the tags and registration on the truck until you got to your destination. If they belong to your present company then when you get to Virgina take them off and overnight them back.
lydialonghaul Thanks this. -
The hunter's permit is an official IRP deal... should be honored by all states...
