They sure as heck had the money to spend on explosives.

They blew that #### bus up with so much force they could've sent kids on a field trip to the moon

so, how are they going to pay for these new buses?

well of course, they are going to issue a new bond issue, so wall street gets a cut, you get to pay top dollar plus interest for new buses for the next 20 years and a couple head honcho's in the state get some nice kickbacks.

This kind of crap is idiotic and is why we as a nation are failing. When you buy something, a truck, a roof, whatever, it has a lifespan. And you put away the replacement cost every year. a roof lasts 20 years, you put away 1/20 of the cost every year and replace it on the 20th year. It's called depreciation. it's in the tax code for private business's. But governments (at all levels), nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Well X, Y or Z is worn out now and we need to issue a bond to just do regular maintenance.

What happened to the money over all the years for replacement? Where did that go? corruption, pensions, salaries, etc

You can't borrow money to do regular maintenance, this is a planned for number, you know what it's going to cost each year to replace this kind of stuff, there's no reason beyond total incompetence that rates should have to rise or a bond issue.

Mike I have to call BS on part of your article.

I cannot believe that any government would make such ridiculous rules. They have to have been thought our and well researched prior to being signed into law. Don't they?:biggrin_25523:

Sir Topham Hat is one of the most respected leaders in our industry and any time I can make good mention of him I will! Any thread that mentions Sir Topham Hat is automatically a winner.
Sir Topham Hats greatest management line is "you've caused delay and confusion, now go back to the shed and think about what you've done." Topham Hat wasn't big for screwing around.

The state of South Carolinas plan was to use unclaimed lottery money to fund the purchase of new school buses. I don't know how they thought that was going to work.

You know what the kicker is Mister G?
The government of South Carolina didn't pass the 15 year replacement law until 2007? Why would you pass a law to replace school buses you have no interest in replacing putting your self on the hook for something you were never serious about fallowing through on?

If you watch that news report its all kicking the can down the road and he said she said and schools blaming the state and the state blaming law makers.

That's the rub they didn't plan on replacing the buses and further more SC is the only state that has that system, I bet they want to get rid of that system, but then the poorer school districts will go "you can't do that we have never had to budget for transportation and were not going to start now! We don't have the money!"
