Recently I have been approached with opportunities to haul horse trailers for a local business as well as local hauling of construction materials/equipment to job sites. I currently have a 1 ton dually setup to haul both pull behind as well as gooseneck trailers. I have a Class A license with endorsements. At present I am not fully utilizing my CDL license since I have a local employment that doesn't require that type of license. I currently run an electronic log book as I do make occasional runs in-state that requires my CDL.
My question is if I wanted to be legal would I need to be under my own authority? or use theirs if they have one? Insurance requirement(s)? etc.? What category would I fall under (ie LTL, Hotshoting, ???)? This would basically be a side business.
Appreciate any guidance about this since I'm getting conflicting information from folks around here. For those 'supertruckers' that feel the need to post derogatory comments - save it please.
