In my state, Commiefornia, I run only local but considered “Intrastate”, only Display my business name and Ca. MCP number. And of course, “Fire Extinguisher inside”.

I run in Ken-tuck-ee a lot, and I don't recall having to pay that much. Oregon, however, is another matter. They bend you over, and when they're done, they don't even give you a kiss.

Even a single mile traveled in Kentucky requires a KYU number. You don't pay for the number. You pay for every mile you drive in the state. It's much like IFTA.
You're getting screwed by every state that does this nonsense. NY, KY and CT immediately come to mind. Every mile you accrue in those states results in essentially being charged twice once you factor in the IFTA deal. Not to mention the added burden of quarterly filings.
KY will fine you several hundred dollars and suspend your account if you file late even if you have zero miles. Even though your IFTA filings easily prove this they will still gouge you.
See, Kentucky knows where it sits on major freight lanes geographically and they are capitalizing on it in every way possible. -
Maybe if you have miles reported. I have twice forgotten to file Kentucky because I never go there.
I received a warning letter both times, no penalties, no cancellation.

Yeah, I have my KYU number and go through there a lot. I just don't recall ever thinking that I paid a lot. Oregon, I notice immediately. I think it costs well over 20 cents a mile there. I file my quarterlies for OR, KY, NM and NV within 5 days after the quarter ends like clockwork, even if I have no miles to report. NY has me filing once a year now. I haven't bothered with CT because in the 3 years I've had my authority, I went to the northeast once, and that was NJ. It's just not worth it to put up with the traffic, tolls, limited parking and tight infrastructure.Last edited: May 17, 2025

Frankly, even one single red cent is too much IMO. Carriers are already paying IFTA. These scam mileage taxes are double dipping extortion. IFTA is already probably the biggest scam in Trucking but then some of these parasitic states go and take it even further.

IFTA just makes sure the heaviest vehicles are paying the correct amount of fuel tax for the damage they do driving on the roads of each state. Additional taxes should not be allowed and I think NY HUT has been challenged but since it's just a $1.25 sticker and nothing else it was found to be insignificant. I don't know how Oregon gets away with it.
Having checked, I guess the sticker isn't all of it. I only did the request for the sticker and never the tax returns for a company I used to work for. -
Carriers are already supposed to be paying that road "damage" when they pay their FHUT. How many times are they supposed to pay for road damage?
They pay FHUT/2290, IFTA and NYHUT, KYU plus whatever OR, NV, NM and CT are extorting. It's out of control.
The biggest kick in the nuts is the roads are all in poor condition as a whole. The road damage is being paid for like three different times. Where's the money going? They're robbing us blind. All of us.gekko1323 Thanks this.
