After talking with a few guys about doing a inframe job on my 500hp 12.7 60 series Detroit pre egr the two guys I talk to told me to buy a kit and then bring it to them so I spent all day looking and getting prices
I'm looking at doing a kit with injectors I did the bull gear 85,000 miles ago so it's good also did a turbo 200,000 ago so I should also be good on that I am going to get a head
Almost all the people I called said there kits use OEM detroit parts but some places were $2,200 more than the next guy what should I look for most kits did come with a two year warranty or longer
Is there a good place y'all have got kits from before and prices would help
Inframe kits what's the best bang for your $$$$

I had a shop ask me to get a kit for my engine once. It was a total rebuild. The first trip out, an injector leaked fuel into the oil and scored the crank. The parts company said the fault was the mechanic, the mechanic said the fault was the parts. I ended up paying a large portion of a second rebuild. If the place that does the rebuild buys all the parts, they are responsible for everything. Also, be sure to get a warranty in writing from the shop. I learned the hard way. Just something to think about.
mitmaks Thanks this. -
When I had my inframe done, the shop owner said I could go with after market kit & bring it to him or he would go with oem. I let him choose what ever type he wanted. I figured if something, ANYTHING went wrong he could say, it was the aftermarket kit, that was not his fault. I know he told me he had 2 bad experience with aftermarket in 24 years, so he never used them since.

I found the difference in prices of the aftermarket kits veses OEM was worth the odds. Partically because problems with OEM parts and most shops will still try to blame the parts and try to get you to go after them at least for the cost of the parts. Just read the posts on bad shops on here.
I priced my kit from Detroit Diesel for almost 11 thousand and the aftermarket kit was only 6 thousand.
Also Detoit shop forman told me they get alot of stuff from Young and sons (Major machine shop) out of Indy. At Young and sons, was told most what they sell is Sealed Power which is the same as what Detroit Diesel shops use. Just what I was told.
Also your price difference could be the actual parts included. Some don't include the liners with a kit. Most do not include cam rollers or rocker tips or injectors.
Also are you getting the head rebuilt and new injector cups. -
Thats why they are telling me to buy my own kit they are not detriot certified so the $3,000 they will charge me if something goes wrong its on me not them im not about to spend $14,000 on a inframe on a truck thats worth $15,k thats just stupid im hopping to get this done for around $8,000 total

Wow. Really 8 grand?
Labor included? -
Does that include the bull gear? That really should be checked, I usually have that replaced at the time of an inframe on the series 60.
