If the shop uses their own source for parts, & anything fails, they will, should warranty all defects, my shop will pay 100% of parts, shipping & labor if any problems, when they get parts. not so if I do. just like bringing your car with starter in hand to a mechanic to install, vs the mechanic installs his own starter. my inframe coat $6800 plus tax. parts labor , everything. consist of. pistons, sleeves, rod's main, head redone, all gaskets, oil cooler, & probably a few things, I cant remember.

A pre egr kit is cheaper even from detroit.A friend of mine has a shop and gets some of his kits from KW in Memphis. Not sure of the brand but has never had issues after rebuild. But with what u have already done,u just needur basic inframe like heavyhaulerss.Should be able to do that under 8000 if the shop ur using is a good one.

I used an aftermarket kit for my inframe just over a year ago. I am very happy with it. I have never seen the sense in doing a $15k inframe on a $15k truck. I was in to mine $7800 total. I bought my kit from agkits.com

Had an inframe done on my 2000 detroit 2 months ago. New liners, pistons, mains, rings, new head, and all new hoses and belts. plus a few other things for under $8000. And I have a 12 month, 100,000 mile warranty.

In a gasoline engine I'll opt for the best of the best in aftermarket parts.

But on a big truck I always make sure they use OEM parts- if they're made overseas (like China) you just can't be sure they were manufactured to the OEM QC specs.

Liners made of an inferior grade metal, bearings that don't have correct clearances, parts that aren't heat treated or tempered properly, used parts that shouldn't be used again... It only takes one tiny out- of- spec part to ruin the whole engine.

I guess it's a gamble- if the truck was driving local and the driver owned a shop- or had a shop to repair it at less cost- and it was driven gently, it might be worth the risk.

If it has to pull grades and run hard with heavy loads, I would want the OEM parts and a solid tech doing the rebuild. Halfway up Cabbage Patch or Grapevine Hill is the wrong place to discover you should have used the stock cylinder liners- or injectors- or turbo- or bearings..
